It came with a freedos so I just install win 7 on itIf the laptop came with Windows 7, it must be more than 5 years old.

Impossible to install W7 on a freedos disk. DOS is an archaic filing system that passed out of existence when Windows 2000 went to NTFS, a far superior file system.
W7 will not run or install on a freedos disk.
Run Speccy on your system and post the link only to the result here.
Here's my canned instructions:
Please go Here and download the FREE version of Speccy system analyzer and save to your computer's desktop. Install it.
Open Speccy. Give it a few seconds to scan your system.
Click File \Publish Snapshot.
In the next screen, click yes.
In the next screen, click Copy To Clipboard.
In your next post, paste that link in the post. Do not post the entire log, just the link provided.

ThisHe is trying to install windows 7 and it freezes in the final stages before it reboots.

Did you format the disk as NTFS...either before or during the attempted Win 7 install? Do you have a legitimate copy of a Win 7 install disk and a valid license?
