The Sophos Virus Removal Tool is a stand-alone program that allows you to perform a quick scan of your computer for computer viruses.  If any infections are found it will attempt to remove them for free. As this program only scans your computer and remove any infections it finds, it can be used even if you have another anti-virus product installed. It is not a full-fledged anti-virus program, though, so you will not get the extra benefits or real-time protection, web protection, etc.

In the description from Sophos they state that this is a "little tool", but at a size of 78MB this program is larger than many full featured anti-virus programs. Regardless of the size, the program does a decent job of finding infections on your computer and removing them for free.  Therefore, if size does not matter for you, this is a handy tool to use alongside your normal anti-virus program as a second opinion.
