Hi,

I have made what looks to be a gigantic mess up, while trying to get Steam to boot into full picture mode upon signing in.

Following step by step the instructions in this post

https://steamcommunity.com/groups/bigpicture/discussions/1/864958451556578063/?l=polish

Now, when I log in, steam automatically opens in full screen mode so I achieved my goal there, but when I exit/power steam down I am left with a black screen, rather than it returning to desktop like it shoul now weirdly enough, my guest User Account works absolutely fine, it boots into full screen mode and I am able to power down steam and it returns back to desktop with all programs and applications, but I cannot for the life of me get the same on the admin user account.

I don't have a lot of time right now to devote to this, but...

It seems like this may be intended behaviour:

==============
Troubleshooting etc
==============
If you get only a black screen with a cursor instead, or your gamepad doesn't work, or whatever, press control+alt+delete and select 'Task Manager.' Go to File>New Task (Run) and type "explorer.exe" - this should bring back your regular desktop until you log in again. You can also use this method to access Windows if you want to do anything else.

Go back and check that you made all the registry edits exactly right. To remove the Steam bootingness, just delete the 'Shell' entry you added.

Does the first instruction not solve the problem?

That is not something you should never do.

Boot is a very special time so that it gets itself figured out.  Do you do well when you wake up ?

Turn off in BIOS anything that speeds up the Boot for the same reasons as below :

Turn off MS Fast Start : https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-windows-10-fast-startup  and WHY !!!

Fix System files. Dism will bring any that are corrupted and replace them. SFC then uses the files to fix issues if there are still any.

From a DOS Command Prompt from START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | select "Run as Administrator" then Copy/Paste --> :
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command then Enter    if it finds problems then reboot. (Completed Successfully : means reboot)
then
After : please Open another Admin Command Prompt and please run Copy/Paste --> SFC /SCANNOW into the Dos window or Powershell and Enter.  Reboot after.

Please Post a "link" of Speccy Report.
Please install Speccy Free : https://m.majorgeeks.com/files/details/speccy.html
Use Custom Install
At the Top Left Corner of Speccy --> Click File and then Click Publish Snapshot Report, a window will popup and Click YES. --> Another popup will appear and then Click "Copy To Clipboard" then Paste that "link" to your next reply in your thread.

Download Minitoolbox from the below link :
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/
Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.
-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
    -List devices
-List users, partition and memory size
Now click "Go" and Copy/Paste and post the output text in your next reply

You sir, are a legend!

May your tea be brewed to perfection and your eggs have a beautiful yolk.

(Fixed)

I would however like a solution to getting steam to run in Full Picture Mode from start up and be able to exit back to the desktop, if anyone knows a non harmful solution?

Apologies if in the wrong thread, I again really appreciate your help, and thanks others for your valuable contribution.

It sounds as though Steam is crashing Windows Explorer when it exits. There may well be dumps in a sub-folder of C;\Windows\LiveKernelReports, if there are you're welcome to upload them and I'll take a look. But there's no way for me to debug either Steam or Explorer because we have no symbol files for either.

I am unable to upload these files as the forum rules won't allow it, but under C:WINDOWS\LiveKernalReports I have two folders one titled WATCDOGS & the other USBHUB3, WATCHDOGS is empty, and USBHUB3 has two .dmp files in it titled USBHUB3-20231029-0432.dmp & USBHUB3-20240318-2056.dmp.

Couldn't be these causing the problem could it?

Hope this heps.

The way it's done is to upload the files to a file hosting service, such as Google Drive, MS OneDrive, and so on, and post a link to them here.
