Not sure if the issue is Windows related or hardware...

I recently upgraded my daughter's computer because it would randomly just freeze. The main components were 7 years old so I did a budget upgrade for her

Intel i5 11600K
Gigabyte Aorus Z590 Elite AX

Leftover/reused parts initially
Corsair DDR4 3000 (8gb x 4)
AMD RX580 GPU
Corsair 650 watt power supply

Upon putting it together I realized the motherboard power she had was only an 8 pin and the new motherboard needed the 8+4. I didn't want to have to buy another power supply so I put in an adapter to make it a 8+8.

Everything was assembled and all plugs are exactly where they need to be. It absolutely would not even boot to the gigabyte screen. After doing a little reading on the exact motherboard, apparently it has some slight issues with using four sticks of memory so I decided to test each stick individually on all four slots and verified that all the sticks of memory did work so I ended up just using two sticks to get everything up and running.

I could get Windows 10 installed and then within five to seven minutes it would freeze and I would get some blue screen error message and it would reboot. This happened multiple times so I started trading the memory sticks and that didn't help. I removed the AMD video card and ran right off the motherboard video and that also did not change the outcome. Eventually, it got to the point where it wouldn't even make it through an entire install of Windows before it would freeze up. And now it gets to the bio screen and I can go through everything and biles without issue including resetting the CMOS and all that but when I try to boot from the USB stick to install Windows it freezes there now and not go past it.

I went and bought another Gigabyte Aorus Z590 Elite AX motherboard and still the same issue.

I replaced the Corsair memory with a new kit of DDR4 3000 (16gb x 2).... same issue

I tried another M.2 drive and same issue. I've tried resetting the CMOS multiple times and booting with only 1 Memory stick..... same issue

I've been building computers for 20+ years and never had this much BS... I've ALWAYS had great luck with Gigabyte motherboards but is that the main issue here? The motherboard not liking my hardware?

Some of the errors.... they come up different each time...

Kmode exception not handled
Kernel security check failure
Driver IRQL not less or equal
Interrupt exception not handled

Welcome to BC.

You must have missed the Posting Instructions : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/576314/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-windows-vista-through-to-11/

Was the 1st thing you did after installing Windows was disconnect from internet then install your already download M/B Drivers from your M/B Support Page :

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z590-AORUS-ELITE-AX-rev-10/support#support-dl-bios

Starting with your Chipset then SATA Drivers and working to the lower class drivers  ?

Your Gigabyte Aorus Z590 Elite AX is recommended to have 500watt and higher psu

Your RX580 is 450watts

Intel i5 11600K  350watts   ============================  Not unknown to get a bunged chip from the factory.     Would not be my Chip of choice only able to do DDR4 3200 max.

Unknown Corsair Ram.........  is it on the M/B QVL list ??

Do not mention what Drives.....  are they on the QVL ?? https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z590-AORUS-ELITE-AX-rev-10/support#support-doc

Would think possibly under supplied wattage maybe the issue.  As well you say did want to by a new PSU and is 6yrs old and not the correct PSU  Go get a 750 RM Corsair and do things properly.

It didn't stay running long enough to install much of anything. It just froze. I removed the AMD GPU and same issues so I wasn't too convinced it was the power supply just yet. I can sit and screw around with the BIOS screen for a long while without issue. As soon as it tries to start booting from a Windows install USB (both Win 10 and 11) the little wind-up dial after the AORUS screen freezes up and it either boot loops there over and over or I get one of the Blue error screens.

I'm at work, but when I get home I'll totally format the USB drives and redo the Install files again just to rule out corruption even though all 3 odlf my USB sticks failed.

As stated previously, I did research that specific motherboard and they seem to be known to have issues recognizing 4 memory sticks quite often. And if that's an issue, what else could be? I may have to jump brands for a quick test

Try booting a Linux USB, most distros will run off the USB drive without having to install anything. That will show you clearly whether this is a hardware issue (which I suspect it is) or a Windows issue.

I just tried the Linux boot USB and it froze in the same spot that Windows does. I guess I'll have to try a Memtest86 boot

Do not screw around with the BIOS : when possible turn off anything that speeds up the Boot example ASUS Fast Boot for the same reasons as below :

Turn off MS Fast Start : https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-windows-10-fast-startup /11 and WHY !!!

Do not exit buy using Optimized defaults as that is a form of Overclocking and re-enables in BIOS what want turned off.

Stock settings.  If will not start with stock settings think possible it is what you PLAYED with with your PSU Setup.

So did not answer questions.  When not providing information that is needed/requested/or hinted at people stop responding to your posts very quickly.

It' definitely hardware then. It seems to be doing the same freeze that it did before you upgraded it, so the problem must in the bit(s) you didn't replace.

I would try it without the dGPU to eliminate that.

Also try it on each RAM stick alone to eliminate each of those.

If it still freezes then it must be the PSU.

I have a new PSU coming. I would have never guessed that would be the issue considering it works just fine or so it seems. It is 650 Watts and I did not change the graphics card so I figured it would be good enough to run all the newer stuff. If a new power supply doesn't solve the issue, I'm getting it and starting over

Corsair 650 watt power supply

What is the model name or number of this PSU.

Upon putting it together I realized the motherboard power she had was only an 8 pin and the new motherboard needed the 8+4. I didn't want to have to buy another power supply so I put in an adapter to make it a 8+8.

I hope that no damage has been done by doing this.

You only need to connect a 2x4 pin 12V ATX  connector, the separate 4 pin 12V ATX connector is for extreme overclockers.

I have a new PSU coming

What is the model name or number of the replacement PSU.

Two decent PSUs was the HX the Bronze or Gold efficiency rated version.

Do you have just the one 8 pin CPU ATX power supply hooked up now.

Yes... I pulled the 8x2 adapter out and same issue. The PC ran all night while I was at work. It was in the middle of the memtest86 yesterday when I left and I didn't want to Interrupt it. The PC was still on this morning when I got home and it passed all the tests. This is why I'm stumped as to if it's actually the power supply or something else. It only seems to glitch when I try to boot to the USB

No.... no drivers as I can't even get Windows installed. It freezes before it even goes to the install screen. It does it with Linux as well. I get the Mobo warmup screen that shows the Aorus logo and then the USB drive with the OS flashes like its reading and then the monitor gives the progress circle wind-up thing for about 1-2 sec and then it freezes
