Start bar search

Just recently, the search built into the start menu stopped working, and I've no idea why. Pushing the window key brings up the start menu as expected, but typing anything in does NOT work and trying to do so makes it close. The search bar itself is grayed out and says "Type here to search" I can use the mouse to click on pinned items and it works fine. Running the troubleshooter, it says it fixed it by restarting the search service, and when attempting to try again, it is not white (like normal) instead of gray for half a second then goes gray again.

 

Restarting didn't work, CHKDSK didn't work, SFC said it found a corrupt file and fixed it, but it still doesn't work (repeat attempts at SFC says no faults found), rebuilding the index didn't work. Computer information provided in included pix

 

In the long run, there are workarounds to still use the comp, but it's damned annoying and I want it to work as it should. Thanks in advanced for any help

On a search, I found this: "I deleted the domain user from the computer, recreated it and the problem is solved.

From this, I can tell that some recent Windows 10 update is corrupting the user account. I wish there was a simpler fix than deleting the account but at least I have it working" But I would really REALLY like to not have to do that so I don't have to re-do all kinds of settings

Thank you for the information.

The first thing that jumps out from your reports: you are running Avast, Malwarebytes and Spybot (an outdated, worthless application) on top of Windows Defender (although the latter appears to be disabled). That is too many security programs. Doing so degrades - not enhances - your system security & can lead to instability, crashes, conflicts and other anomalous behavior.
I suggest uninstalling Avast (using the vendor removal tool) and uninstalling Spybot.


Having said that, your logs show evidence of a tool to bypass MS activation servers. Given that discussion of piracy & security bypasses is forbidden by forum rules, and given that this license issue persists since it was discussed at length in your previous topic, I'll bow out from further assistance until it has been resolved. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forum-rules/

But AutoKMS reported in the MTB log is a hack tool for illegal use of MS software (either Windows and/or Office).

No idea what that is or how it got there. I've done a completely new reinstall and everything works now. And while I've said multiple times this is an OEM version I purchased, I so appreciate the insinuation of theft </sarcasm>

It also confirms your intentions to use a program that thwarts Activation.

 

No, actually you are the only one that is accusing your self of theft.     As well the picture is would say when the system is activated after you have done your thing when it deactivates as per your previous topic.

 

A closed tag : </sarcasm> funny should be a open tag.

 

Since you Will not show that the system is activated when asked with the OEM Key which you have a right to own and use and no longer need a key as activation as now tied to your hardware.

 

Again one that protests too much and name calls their helpers dost protest too much.     Would think possibly you should consider if this forum is the best forum for you.   Do let us know.

I haven't attempted to "thwart" anything, I have receipts. It was not outright said, but it was implied.
