Windows 10 - Explorer.exe stalled after the computer wakes up from sleep mode

Hi,

I have a Lenovo laptop with Windows 10, that works fine, except sometimes, after it falls asleep, the explorer.exe is acting up.

When this happens, the taskbar is just gray/black, the Icons on the lower right are missing, and the network is dead. There is no internet connection.

To recover, I start the task manager, kill all explorer.exe processes, and then start a new one.

After a few minutes of initialization, everything comes back and the network initializes and connects.

I’d like to find out how to fix this so I don’t have to recover so many times when I get back to the computer.

 

PS: I ran sfc “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” and “SFC SCANNOW” and have all the updates installed.

This found and fixed some errors, but not the issue above.

 

Any ideas are welcome.

Hi, Is this sleep or hibernation... ?

 

Any way the easy 1st is turn off MS Fast Start : https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-windows-10-fast-startup and WHY !!! and reboot and see if that fixes the issue.

 

Next in the URL click Win 10 tab and follow directions : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-file-explorer-if-it-won-t-open-or-start-ce614e06-be97-fe4a-a7ce-d6bf13a8cb98#WindowsVersion=Windows_10

Thanks, there are a few that I did not install yet. Installing them now: 

Malicious Removal Tool KB890830

.Net Update 10/22H2 KN5037036

Windows 10 Cum. Update KB5036892

Security Update KB503441

All those came in in April 2024.  

I disabled the fast startup as suggested by Pkshadow, and will reboot after the updates. 

What other problems did he refer to ?

Oh, it may say Explorer but it is actually File Explorer and the solutions will be under that when search.

 

Not bad stuff, just pernickety stuff that should be looked after.

Hi all,

I ran Update, Chkdsk, dism, sfc. Each of them found something to fix. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly what was wrong. 

I changed the power settings and the fast startup and rebooted a few times. 

I will let it run for a while and see if the file explorer keeps crashing.
