My Amazon music App had been freezing intermittently so I decided to do an Uninstall/Reinstall this morning. As soon as I uninstalled, many of my desktop icons disappeared plus some files seem to nave vanished. I was able to recover some, but there are a few important documents I would like to salvage.

Windows 10 Ver. 2004 OS Build 19041.153.

No detections via MalwareBytes or Adw Cleaner.

Other than the mysterious loss of some files, PC running as smoothly as before the incident.

Thanks

This may or may not work, but try creating a random shortcut on your desktop of some other program, and see if the other icons reappear.

Worth a try, but didn't work.

The more I think about it, all files deleted were on desktop. I kept several folders handy for quick reference and used desktop a temporary "holding area" . Nothing else seems to have been deleted. Very strange.

Have you tried a search for a file name? One that you might remember. Or maybe look to see if the app or even file explorer remember a recently opened file.

Some of the folders and files do show up in Explorer as Recent or Frequent but when I click on them there is an unavailable/deleted error.

So am I correct in assuming that this is likely an Insider Update glitch and that I should be contacting Microsoft support?
