May be a coincidence, but taken my Windows 11 surface pro 5 from UK to Australia and cannot get several windows apps to run

Paint

Windows Store

Snipping tool

They show as present on start button, but do not open.

They cannot be uninstalled (not showing in list of installed apps)

Troubleshooter is no use

I have a vague idea that it may be something to do with my clock being on UK time

Will test in uk on my return, but any thoughts will be very welcome thanks

Welcome to BC.

That very well could be.

The Microsoft Store is a Integral Part of Updating Windows 11.

Open the Store, go down the left side to Library and Install/update what you use.

Note : Uninstall of Windows Apps or Install is done by Powershell.

They are not deleted from the system they remain hidden but non-active so they can be reinstalled.

Though is possible to remove.

Note : For Info Only : Do not download anything : https://windowsreport.com/uninstall-windows-10-apps-all-users/ /11 as well

EDIT : Surface is a Strange Creature and does not necessarily behave like other Branded Systems HP/DELL/Lenovo or a install on any other system.

.................................cannot get several windows apps to run..................................They show as present on start button, but do not open.

I doubt very much that your geolocation could cause that behaviour. A proper restart can frequently fix random glitches like that so click on the power icon and choose RESTART.

By the way, why is your clock still on UK time? It shouldn't be. You can change it by right-clicking on the clock -> Change data & time. If you need a second clock to show you the UK time and date as well, click on "Additional clocks" then set one up. Hovering your mouse pointer over the clock will then show the date and time for both clocks.

The applications are not bound to country you're at, we can use error message when you try to start these apps.

thanks again for your help. I do not remember testing these apps in the UK before travelling to Australia, so they may have failed there too

I will test out again when I return and let you know the results

Yes thanks Secret-Squirrel

I restarted with time zone set automatically so it picked up the right clock/date for Australia

Same old problems

No worries though - I am only using it briefly on holiday so I will dig into it when I return to uk

Thanks again

To reinstall all the Windows apps, all you have to do is run the below command. Type or copy-paste the following command inside your PowerShell that is open as an administrator:

Get-AppxPackage -allusers | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register “$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml” -DisableDevelopmentMode}

You will see few error messages when you execute the command.

The package could not be installed because resources it   modifies are currently in use.

Unable to install because the following apps need to be closed.

It would seem you have other issues.   Let us know when want to work on it :

From a DOS Command Prompt from START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | select "Run as Administrator" then Copy/Paste --> :
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command then Enter    if it finds problems then reboot. (Completed Successfully : means reboot)
then
After : please Open another Admin Command Prompt and please run Copy/Paste --> SFC /SCANNOW into the Dos window or Powershell and Enter.  Reboot after.

Please Post a "link" of Speccy Report.
Please install Speccy Free : https://m.majorgeeks.com/files/details/speccy.html
Use Custom Install
At the Top Left Corner of Speccy --> Click File and then Click Publish Snapshot Report, a window will popup and Click YES. --> Another popup will appear and then Click "Copy To Clipboard" then Paste that "link" to your next reply in your thread.

Download Minitoolbox from the below link :
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/
Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.
-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
    -List devices
-List users, partition and memory size
Now click "Go" and Copy/Paste and post the output text in your next reply
