Hi:
NVIDIA GeForce GPU driver updates take less than a minute on my Win11 desktop PC.
We don't know your systems specs.
And we'll need to wait for one of the hardware gurus to provide expert technical advice.
But I expect that the short, non-technical answer to your question is: YMMV and depends largely (if not entirely) on your hardware.
EDITED TO ADD:
Are you getting these drivers directly from NVIDIA (or your OEM)? (GOOD)
Or are you getting them via Windows Update? (BAD)
Cheers
PS I've never heard of having to reformat/reinstall Windows just to get video drivers. We will likely need you to run some utilities to obtain your system specs in order to have a better idea what's going on.

If this was a Microsoft Driver update, stop using them,
If from NVIDIA go to here and get your drivers : https://www.techspot.com/drivers/manufacturer/nvidia_geforce/ the tell you what has been changed and new and fixed.
Also more control. I do not use Experience as I only want the drivers not it's BS of logon and follow me.

Lengthy is unusual but depends on the age of system, ram and processor. Your specs should not take long.
I do complete new installs from the menus so it does take a little longer for me, The laptop NVIDIA does not take long, the AMD Radeon takes a little longer.
Can investigate your system if want.
Please Post a "link" of Speccy Report.
