So I've been posting all kinds of problems I've been having with this laptop.

Asus X55A

Win 8.1

Firefox

I've got it's replacement up and running, almost the way I want it.

So this old gal is going to be put to rest.

Second computer I bought it for my Mom.

First had Vista on it.

It served both of us well for years.

But just to unstable for the last few months, so it's time to go.

Funny thing is it seems to be doing well now.

I will miss her.

If have provided this Start Menu for Win 10/11 before, oh well :=} https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft/open-shell-brings-back-the-glory-days-of-the-windows-start-menu/

If do not want all the bells and whistles of Win10 : as well as turn off some telemetry : https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

Put Linux Mint (most like Windows) on the old beast and keep it or donate it with it on : https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=302   Comes with software.

Lots more to be had : https://alternativeto.net/platform/linux/?license=opensource  Open Source, Free, Paid, Games.

Watch Videos of it : https://www.google.com/search?q=Linux+Mint&client=firefox-b-d&source=lnms&tbm=vid&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjSh_vP_J78AhUFAjQIHThKC4EQ_AUoA3oECAIQBQ&biw=1536&bih=671&dpr=1.25

Another distro to look at for somebody coming from Windows. You can run it as a live session to see if it suits your needs and sees all your hardware. Based on Ubuntu.

Thanks

I'm not so good at this computer thing.

My other desktop has Win 10, so I kind of know it.

This thing is working just like new.

Probably because it is new.

I'll try to keep up with the scans and maintenance better with this one.
