I have an ACTisys IR device model ACT-IR220Lplus infrared device, and I would like to understand how to install it on Windows 98SE. I can't find the drivers, since I only have windows 95 ones. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much!

A little bit more info...is that a Com Port Adapter ?

If so then Drivers for 7/8/10 Linux and others.  Windows 98 should not be on-line :

https://www.actisys.com/Downloads.html

FAQ : Answer: The IrDA driver for the IR220L is pre-loaded on the Win98 CD. To install you would go to the "add new hardware device" on control panel and select "infrared device" and the install wizard will lead you to setup the IrDA driver for Win98. Please make sure you select "ACT-IR220L" or "ACT-IR200L" on SIR dongle type. Please get back to us if you have additional questions or concerns.

Seems there is various Options : (be careful out there) https://www.google.com/search?q=ir220l+windows+driver+download&client=firefox-b-d&sca_esv=53a1e55b74b11b62&sca_upv=1&ei=YvkaZs2xNKnx0PEPr46JyA8&oq=IR220L+windows+driver+&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiFklSMjIwTCB3aW5kb3dzIGRyaXZlciAqAggAMgUQIRigATIFECEYoAFItaABUOU4WJySAXADeAGQAQCYAWWgAfwEqgEDOC4xuAEByAEA-AEBmAIMoAKoBcICChAAGEcY1gQYsAPCAgcQIRgKGKABmAMAiAYBkAYFkgcEMTEuMaAHvhU&sclient=gws-wiz-serp

As to end result is unknown.  Driver Easy maybe best though is a Driver Updater.

I tried as you recommended. Strangely, the device is recognized and seen in device manager without errors, however it doesn't work. I cannot synchronize the PDA with the infrared device, the light on the device does not flash. Keep in mind that it works fine with windows 95. Therefore the device is not broken, but perfectly functional. There is something in windows 98SE that prevents me from using it, but I don't know what....

Driver Updater? But does it still work? I don't know which version to use. I assume it needs to be connected to the internet to download the drivers.

Not sure this is your issue but did you do the BIOS setup verification as outlined on page 7 of the manual?

So I honestly don't understand anything, it seems to me that it is already set to 2F8H/IRQ3. I attach images. Obviously the BIOS is in Italian.

As you can see in "Dispositivo porta disp. ad infrarossi" (Infrared port device available) it is set with 2F8h.
In "IRQ porta dispositivo ad infrarossi" (IRQ port infrared device) it is set with IRQ 3.

I have no idea if it is possible to make settings for infrared on this screen. Maybe this is where we have to say which device to use?

Maybe in "Modalità della porta parallela" (Parallel Port Mode) I should put "manual"?

Maybe in "IRQ per la porta parallela" (IRQ for the parallel port) I have to insert IRQ 3?

Only the Com port should be set to IRQ3, not the parallel port. The manual shows two Com ports. The second being set to IRQ3 and the first set to IRQ4. That looks like what you already have so I'm not sure why your setup isn't working.

There is no Onboard IR Function in your settings as shown in the manual?

No, I don't see any function for integrated IR in the options. If you can translate the menu, from my photos, you can see just what options there are. I also tried with Windows ME. same problem.
I repeat, with Windows 95 there are no problems. The device works correctly.

I would contact the company's tech support email.

Already done. Do you know what the answer is? They can't help me for such old products. And they advised me to get a new one for Windows 11. Absurd....

I found this but don't know how much help it is. Do you get an icon in the system tray as shown in the link? There is also a mention of 98SE requiring a speed limitation.

What you recommended doesn't work. This is because the device is not communicating with the PC. In fact it doesn't turn on, the green light stays off. It should flash.

I also noticed, that in Device Manager, Windows detects another infrared device, and in "network adapters" it detects a "Serial port for PnP infrared support PNP05010", but in fact it does not have any integral device this IBM 330.

I don't know why it detects these devices.

It's been a long time since I booted a Windows 98SE computer. Is it possible to disable the devices in Device Manager?

Look, I did another test. I disconnected the ACTisys device and strangely in device manager it was still seen connected. Usually if something is no longer connected it should not appear in device manager. I think those installed drivers are "fake" This is why the device won't turn on.
However I deactivated the other device as you suggested. It did not work. ACTisys does not turn on. It seems that only Windows 95 can detect it. Very strange....

When you say the drivers are "fake", you're talking about the ones on the Win98SE CD?

Yes absolutely yes. I'll tell you more, I tried the Windows 95 ones and installed them without problems and no errors are reported in device manager. But the device still doesn't work. It seems like he has some preferences of his own. i.e. he only likes Windows 95.
