I trying to get my old ibm thinkpad with windows 98 online. I have the cable plug in to the ethernet port and start up my laptop and it will get the ip address and submask but it won't get the gateway. anuthing windows 2000 and up works just fine on. But if i plug in anything running windows 95 or 98 and even windows me will not connect to the internet. Does anyone know a fix for this?  Thanks for the help i get.

Hmmmm?  I could be wrong, but it's my understanding that Win 95 & 98 are no longer capable of internet use: again, I MAY BE WRONG!  On the other hand, W2K, which is/was NT, is still able to be used for the net because it was meant to be used in a professional/business-setting: it was upgraded many time because of this. I hope this helps, and perhaps someone else can explain it better than me : )

EDIT:  They are far too slow.
