Hey cheesemaker, good to see you here. I don't post often, but view other's post quite often

Linux Mint 11 had FF 5.0 in its updates a few days ago. No problems with it here, so far!

GNOME 3 vs. Unity: A Schism in the Making?

LI

Well, this is going to be interesting. I currently use 10.04 LTS (with Gnome) on my netbook. I looked at 10.04 Netbook Remix (using Unity, if I understand correctly), but I wasn't impressed at the time. On the other hand, I haven't seen the new Gnome 3.

No need for me to change yet, and by the time I have to I'll have a better idea of what's up.

Hi cheesemaker, good to see you here, and hi to you also ravis.

I'm currently using Ubuntu 11.04 myself with the Gnome desktop environment ( gotta' have my Compiz toys! ). I'm also using FF 5 with no problems at all. I've been meaning to try Mint 11 on a partition somewhere, but I'm leary of Gnome3. I took a look at it while it was in beta and didn't care much for it.

Anyhow, I hope to see the two of you posting here a lot. All your information has surely helped me a lot in the past.

Well as I just came into Linux, I would need to say at this point, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. That is the one I have on my machine right now.

I have run into my first glitch if you will. Last night I had no trouble setting up Yahoo chat through Empathy. Now when I try to connect to it, I get the message, unlock login keyring. Apparently my passwords caused a hitch in the git-a-long or something. Either that or I need to do something in Yahoo to allow the connection.

What do you suggest? I could just remove the thing and go directly into Yahoo and use the integrated chat in the email area.

No. I do not allow auto login on anything. If it has a password, you have to put the password in. I have different passwords for everything. Nothing is ever the same and I mark on the cards I have off system a date to change the passwords. I learned that lesson a long time ago. I think the problem is coming from Yahoo. They recently did an update/upgrade and even the email and the groups have changed. Not a big problem, as I can go to yahoo and open a messenger chat in my email to visit with people and family. I was just hoping to be lazy and chat without having to go the the Yahoo site. That's what I get for trying to be a slacker. Vacations have a way of doing that to a person. :woot: :P
