Hi Stefancops, I can understand your frustration at the slow startup of your MacBook Air (2017). Here are a few more things you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

Reset the SMC (System Management Controller
Reset the NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory
Run a diagnostic test
Reinstall macOS.

i have don eall
some says that using an aftermarket ssd with adapter(as i do) can give this problem. But i have it installed from more than 1 year without problems
I know reinstall would solve..but it is a big hassle..need to save daas and reinstall all sw..Anyway if i have monterey, can i install a newer version of os. not monterey i mean?

You've already tried various troubleshooting steps, including resetting SMC and NVRAM, running diagnostic tests, and considering the impact of using an aftermarket SSD with an adapter.
Reinstalling macOS is a potential solution, though it's understandably inconvenient due to data backup and software reinstallation. Regarding upgrading beyond Monterey, macOS generally allows upgrading to newer versions from the current OS, not older ones. If you're on Monterey, you can update to newer macOS versions available after Monterey's release. Consider contacting Apple Support for more personalized assistance given your specific situation.

Hi Stefanocps:

I have the exact problem running my late model MacBook Air 2017.

I reached this thread after doing a search to see if others were experiencing the same. This issue appeared after I completed the last Monterey OS update to 12.7.1. It affects the identification of hard drives in in Disk Utility and also Startup Disk selection. I've done all of the above (including OS restore via Mac OS Recovery) to no avail. I've been using SUPERDUPER! for over ten years without issue, but now my duplicated disks can no longer boot up in Standard Mode—only in Safe Mode.

In my humble opinion, I believe that it's an INTEL/APFS issue.

Have you resolved the issue with a complete erase and reinstall of the Monterey OS?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
