I was using my Chromebook when I had a systems tray pop-up that informed me that an unknown Android device had gained access to my account. Naturally I changed my password.

I've enabled Enhanced Protection, hopefully this will improve the situation.

A couple of hours later it happened again, so I changed my password yet again. It's several hours later now, with no new alert. Is it possible this is a glitch in the Matrix? I did sign-in a couple of times with my Kindle Fire, could this have been the culprit and it was just a case of mistaken browser sniffing? Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

Hi, yes that could be it.

It would show in your logs as to what logged in and from where.

Yes, it showed my country, but wasn't specific about geolocation. So I'm not convinced someone accessed my account. Nothing was changed anyway.

You can also enable two factor authorization on the Google account either with a Smartphone using Google Authenticator or by hardware Security key.  Even somebody gets access to your password they could not access the account because they do not have the Authenticator code or Security key. If you decide to use Google Authenticator or a security key make sure you also print and save the recover codes in case you lose or break your phone. Also if the security key gets lost or breaks..

I'd considered that, thanks. The hardware key sounds like a good idea, as does the authenticator. My account was unchanged and no one changed my password.

Is this the account in your first post where you changed the password?

OK thanks, I'm back!   :bounce:

One caveat, my old Chromebook doesn't recognise my new password so it's locked me out and is now basically a paperweight.

You can do a powerwash where it will reset the Chromebook back to when you first purchased it. Then you can login to your account and everything should be back to where you were before being locked out.

I tried the Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r thing, but it didn't work. I don't know why.

What is the make and model of the Chromebook? Were all keys pressed down at the same time?

See if the method used in the below video works for you. Don't worry about the school enterprise screens. You wont see that. Connect to your own Wifi network SSID and WIFI password.

Also in this video starting at 35 seconds
