Hello all,

My brother attempted to update the BIOS on a Lenovo ThinkStation P720, model CT01WW, but apparently it failed.

He dropped the computer off to me to take a look at it, since I work in IT...however, I haven't dealt with issues like this in over 15 years!

I'm hoping some of you can come up with ideas on how to approach this.

[edit] Yes, I looked up how to clear the CMOS (it's a jumper move from 1-2 to 2-3), and I plan on doing that as well (thanks Bleepin Madman)

I couldn't hook up the machine because of the DisplayPort connector, rather than HDMI, but I just got the adapter yesterday. I did look up the model and downloaded a BIOS ISO file to boot off of, but I am not sure that will help. Before I start monkeying around, I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this issue and how they handled it. I realize it's VERY sketchy information, because I haven't confirmed any of this yet. Any help for a direction is very welcome.

Thank you.

Rick

I would try clearing the CMOS and see if it boots. Find out via google.

thank you. I forgot to mention that I planned on doing that as well. Hopefully he just messed something up when he tried it. Once I get a chance to try it myself, I will either post additional questions or let you all know it is working (and what I did to resolve it)

Download and Burn the CD iso. See the CD iso readme file on how to flash the BIOS outside of Windows.

Thank you all.

A couple more items:

1) He didn't have a DVD on this machine, making the CD option more difficult

2) He decided to K-Ball the machine and use it to beef up other hardware he still has. The video card is already in his machine and making things better for him. The memory is in another machine, and he's contemplating using the processor to add a 2nd proc to one machine. They do a lot of SolidWorks work, so the beefier, the better.

thanks again. I will consider this closed

Generally, you will need to power off your computer, move the jumper to the recovery position, insert a USB drive with the recovery file (if needed), and power on your computer. The recovery process should start automatically and restore the BIOS to a working state.
