Hello. I bought new DVD Writer. LG DVD Writer ( GH24BSB0 ) in the Best Buy. Some background information: For some reason, instead of traditional painting, it is all black up front, and only M-DISCK and LG symbols are showing. While it is marketed as super quiet, I have a feeling it is not running at full speed.

When I run Linux of DVD+R disc, if I open a media, i.e. an image or do some other action I haven't done a a couple of minutes, everything freezes for 2 seconds, then let's go and then drive starts working. This only started happening after I installed new drive.

Please advise. Thank you.

Can you try another distro like Linux Mint or EndeavourOS?

I don't have any of those. I could try it. But my point is, I never had this problem before, and the version of Tails did not change.

The reason for testing is to see if its an issue with tails or with the writer itself.

Considering it's an issue with hardware, what can be done?

But is it though a test of mint or endeavor will determine that.

Hello. I did what you ask. Everything was working fine. I also tried my other optical drive, and it worked well with Tails.

So your new writer worked in mint and endeavor?

I only did mint. Since it worked I believe it to be sufficient. I now would like to know why it is glitching in tails. It does seem to be slightly slower when it comes to loading Linux. Overall 12 minutes from DVD vs. about 11 minutes on ASUS.

Hey, another thing is, usually Optical Drives trays would close when you start PC. But this one doesn't do it. Not sure why.
