We were away for a few months and when I came back the keyboard was dead.  I plugged it in to the USB port as usual but the red light just keeps flashing.  It is supposed to take about 5 hours to fully charge but it has been plugged in for 2 days so I don't think it will be happening.  I see 2 rechargable batteries in the back of the keyboard but I don't have any other way to charge them.  Any thoughts?

Replace the batteries. Not unusual for batteries to reach an end of life. If the new batteries can't take a charge then

you will know something else is amiss.

Do I have to replace with rechargeable ones??

I can still use it plugged in but that sort of defeats the purpose of wireless!  :-)

they might just be rechargeable batteries, that doesn't mean the USB cord is actually charging them,

they might need to be removed to be charged then re-installed,

if that is the case, any standard batteries will do,

read your manual

According to Amazon.com: Logitech K800 Wireless Illuminated Keyboard — Backlit Keyboard, Fast-Charging, Dropout-Free 2.4GHz Connection: Electronics

the model year is 2010. If you had that keyboard for all those years then you must of replaced the batteries before. Supposedly they are good for 3 years.

EDIT: I do see those keyboards are still being sold as new....so.....you may not of ever replaced batteries. I also saw that batteries were not included

per the link above.

I know this is an old thread (and an old model keyboard) but I picked up a used one and quite like it. Regarding the blinking red light I would not assume that means your batteries are shot as I got mine working using an external charger. It is possible it would have charged in time but Logitech Setpoint software did report it as an error and I was not patient enough to find out so I took it out and used a generic charger and sure enough it worked. Now with it reporting as fully charged I imagine it will be fine to "top off" with the USB cable every so often.

But let me back up - after researching this model I found out there are two versions, one that takes AA NiMH batteries (and mine came with a couple of Eneloops) and the other is proprietary pack with wires and a connector that plugs in similar to old cordless phone battery packs and requires you to take the keyboard apart.

It's easy enough to find out by taking the cover off on the back with the single screw, if it's the kind with user replaceable AA's you'll see it and can just swap them out (including with alkalines but don't plug in to charge then!) but here is some additional information to help people identify the one you might have from my unit, which fortunately is one that takes AA NiMH's:

p/n (on sticker) 820-002795
m/n Y-R0011

FWIW I think it's worth a little effort, there's some neat features like not only being backlit but a sensor that will turn on the backlight when it senses activity nearby. The one thing that might have made this perfect would be a dock of sorts rather than the micro-USB connector as the battery life is apparently not that great, but it would work fine if you're close to the computer or any other USB power source most of the time.

Welcome to BC, @kramyugtaht:

This keyboard was introduced in 2010.

And this thread dates back to 2019.

I expect that the topic starter has probably resolved the original problem by now.

But thank you for taking the time to post your detailed explanation.

Cheers
