I have built an HTPC in a silverstone GD09 case.  My wife want's me to put a digital clock on it somehow.  I was wondering if anyone knows of a digital clock that is made to fit into an optical drive slot.  It would have to be pretty low profile since the HDD trays are being used and will block anything more than about two inches or so deep,  I cannot seem to find anything that would be even close.  I'm sure this is a "why do you need that" feature, but to make my wife happy....

You mean...a clock that works whether the system is on or off?

Does the system not reflect a digital clock already...in the lower right hand of the taskbar?

Can always run 8GadgetPack Tools for Desktop Viewing.  I run a Normal Round Clock non-digital but it does have that.

Note not all people agree with running this but behind a good firewall and a/v it is not a problem

Note on updates MS sometimes uninstalls it.

I used to have a 5.25 bay gadget years ago that was a fan controller/temp sensor with a display and clock etc. installed.  It showed the time even when the PC was off, and it was made by Silverstone, if I recall correctly.  TBH I never really liked it - the fan controller element was never brilliant (not as good as the PWM controlled motherboard based controllers), but most annoyingly it ran the clock off a single CR2032 coin type lithium battery, and it literally needed changing every month, sometimes more often if using a cheap battery.  Failing to change the battery would cause it to lose time each time it was powered down, and annoying beeping alarms to go off randomly.

I don't know if they still make them, but there's something along the same lines here - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Socobeta-Automatic-Detection-Sensitivity-Controller/dp/B08RSR736M/

Honestly, I would suggest trying to dissuade your wife that they're a good idea.  Offer to buy a standalone digital clock instead - there are many stylish options!  If she insists, then I'd consider using double sided tape to stick one on to the front of the computer...

Lol, I might try and dissuade her for all the reasons mentioned.  She already has a digital clock on the TV stand, but for some reason wanted me to incorporate it into the case.  Basically, the same type of clock, just built into the case.  And to answer another reply, yes, it needs to stay on all the time which won't be too much of an issue, because the PC is usually on all the time too.

I think she likes new technology (as long as I'm setting it up), but clings to the old stuff.  It took me years to get her to agree to ditch the landline and cable TV.

I know it's a silly and pointless idea to try and even do, but I had to try.

Believe it or not, I have, in the past, seen an add for just what you're looking for in the DIGIKEY catalog.
