I was able to access their site a day or two ago but today, both winpatrol.com and ruisoftware.com are inaccessible.  Does anyone know why?

Is it the end of the free Internet? :(

No idea why. Been a WP plus user for over 5 years. First time for me.

Hmmmm....Maybe their server is down.  Ruisoftware.com is back up, though.

Links are not working for me either but I have not heard any news that Bret Lowry was closing down Ruiware, LLC.

The WinAntiRansom Forums (Landzdown) officially closed Mar 29,2017.

Hi all!

Now, it seems like winpatrol.com and ruisoftware.com work again, but the latter just returns a one-colored page with no text and redirects to ww8.ruisoftware.com

I just figured out why winpatrol.com was temporarily down, they were namely migrating from HTTP to HTTPS. :thumbup2:

That appears to be the case but using or clicking on the Google link for http://www.ruiware.com/ redirects to https://www.winpatrol.com/

Still doesn't explain the silence or absence of Bret Lowry for over a year now.

Hi, quietman7!

I do not know anything particular about that, but I assume Bret888 is Bret Lowry himself as his Member Title is Authorized Ruiware Rep, and he was last active on Aug 29, 2016, at 03:10 PM. Clicking on the Posts link clearly shows this.

It has also been quite a while since I received the monthly Email newsletter from WinPatrol, as the last time was Jul 7, 2017, (but due to the time difference (UTM+1) I actually received it on Jul 8, 2017).

And, interestingly, the links to WinPatrol inside the Email newsletter now reads https://www.winpatrol.com/

Given the importance of this, since HTTPS provides better security against hackers, maybe Bret will send a newsletter about it, we will see... :busy:

midimusicman79

Hello friends,
I just signed up to be part of the discussion.
I'm a loyal user of WinPatrol, WinPrivacy and WAR, but I have to admit that I think that WinPatrol / Rui(n)software is dead.
Why? I was in touch with Bret, half a year ago and asked for some enhancements and bug fixes. He told me that everything is running fine and new updates aren't planed in the near future. Then it became silent about Bret and WinPatrol etc.
We haven't seen any updates since about a year, no new twitter posts, no blog posts. And also neither Bret nor the Ruisoftware Support answered my mails since many months.

I'm pretty sure that they had trouble to sell their software, so they introduced returning fees instead of a one-time payment. They noticed that this also doesn't work, so they started huge campaigns with (expensive) lifetime licenses.
But I guess it wasn't enough profit for them...
If you're asking me, I'm pretty sure we won't see another update on any of their products.
I'm really hoping I'm wrong.
What do you think, did they answer any of your mails in the past months?

// Edit: fixed some expressions since my english is bad

Are you aware of recent updates or did you mean to say (ask) if there are any updates?

"FYI" bro...Although there have been no improvements to WP since last year, I have had to re-download it a couple times this year.  I'm not sure why.

Neither am I. I have not experienced any issues with the last version that was released.

I have used Winpatrol and WAR [helped Beta the first version] since day one.  I have reached Bret the last time in July of 2017, where we discussed how Microsofts new Controlled Folders release would impact his WAR AntiRansomWare product.  He stated that in 5 years, a lot of 3rd party vendors like him would be gone and stated that "The writing is on the wall".

I have not heard from him since, even after repeated attempts to contact him, including last week - May 2018.

I will now attempt to attach a .jpg screen shot of his last message as mentioned above.

TOO BAD!

Jim,

That is an interesting idea. We don’t currently receive preview builds, but we could review it once we get a copy of the update.

I’d like to see how it works.

My assumption is that in 5 years’ time Microsoft will have put many AV companies out of business or force them to diversify.

The writing is clearly on the wall now.

Thank You,

Bret Lowry
