I have the paid version of Malwarebytes Premium v4.6.10 installed on several Windows 10 home computers, and have some questions about how it works alongside Windows Defender.

One of the security settings in Malwarebytes asks me whether I want Malwarebytes to always register itself in the Windows Security Center. On all of our home computers, this setting is marked NO, but I can no longer remember why.

Please help jog my memory.  What does this setting do when marked YES or marked NO?

I would like to receive the benefit of using Malwarebytes, since I'm paying for it, plus also benefit from Windows Defender.  Is this even possible, or am I required to chose between them?

Thanks in advance.

Turning that setting off allows MB and Defender to work alongside each other. Protection from both.

Having it on DISABLES Defender like any other 3rd party AV.

Curious as to why you did not ask this question with your account at the Malwarebytes forum.

Porthos,

Thanks for the quick reply.  It looks like my turning that setting off on our family computers was the correct choice, as far as what I am trying to accomplish, protection wise.

Could you please help point me to where I can access the Malwarebytes company forum to ask questions like this?  I did not see a link to that forum within the Malwarebytes program.

Thanks.

Malwarebytes 5.1 Premium was recently released on March 7, 2024 and you can download and install it from The Official Website.

Good luck! :)

As much as I support Malwarebytes, I would wait for a bit until some concerns users are making get addressed. They are cosmetic issues and are under review.

Thank you, Porthos! :)

Okay, but with all due respect, Malwarebytes 5.1.0.102 is already available for download from the Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware | BC Downloads.

Since March 10, 2024, it is also listed in the Latest Downloads section on the BC Forum website, so I thought it would be okay to mention it.

But maybe the best course of action is to wait until one automatically gets offered Malwarebytes 5 from within the GUI itself, even though I have installed it. :thumbup2:

The Topic Starter asked about registering MB in the Windows Security Center.
@Porthos answered that question in Reply #2.

Enthusiasm for MB software notwithstanding, why hijack this thread to extoll the virtues of MB version 5???

(Moreover, FWIW, @Porthos knows what he's talking about. If he advises waiting to upgrade, that would be sound advice.)

Just sayin....

It is a "soft" release. They are using new downloaders to further test the waters so to speak and it is the only download on the Malwarebytes main site

currently.

There are those who are complaining about the GUI and the VPN showing to all users even though they are not interested in the VPN.

Also, the old lifetime ID and Key licenses have to be activated with the my.malwarebytes.com account or install ver 4 and activate it first then upgrade.

@MoxieMomma

The info was provided for the Forum location and the OP's Account info.

The URL I provided answers the question if running it with Defender.

It provided info on the Security Center as well as Exclusions & both visual info.

Exclusions are really needed as Defender will want to scan MBAM and MBAM to scan Defender.

Think I do, I do think.

Thank you, Porthos! :)

I think Malwarebytes are testing new downloaders sounds essential, but I do NOT complain about the new GUI and I do NOT experience any issue with the VPN. :thumbup2:

Because I only have a base user license for one computer and it is an annual subscription since I purchased it after the lifetime licences became history. :thumbup2:

@Pkshadow:

My comment about hijacking the thread was directed @midimusicman.
But it appears that the subtlety may have been lost on him. ;-)

FWIW the OP's question was "asked & answered".
The thread is now drifting off-topic, describing one MB user's unrelated opinions/experiences of MB5, a topic unrelated to the OP's original question.
It has become a continuation/cross-post for another, similar discussion:
https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/795367/the-anti-malware-software-malwarebytes-version-51-was-officially-released/

EOD for me

Cheers
