recently installed Xampp, however when attempted to open http://localhost/phpmyadmin/, an error message appeared.

MySQL error: Documentation

2002 Due to the target machine's active denial, no connection could be made.

The server isn't responding, or the socket on the local server isn't set up properly.
According to your settings, the connection for controluser failed.

Can somebody assist me with this please?

See if MySQL is running or not, if yes, then check the firewall

These are the steps for setting up XAMPP on your machine:

  • Download the XAMPP installer for your OS from the ‘Apache Friends’ website.
  • Install XAMPP on your machine by double-clicking on the downloaded file and following the instructions given. You can pick which components you want to install. For example, PHP, Apache, MySQL, etc.
  • After the installation process gets completed, start XAMPP by running the XAMPP Control Panel. This Control Panel will be available in the XAMPP installation directory. You can also find the Control Panel in the “Start” menu.
  • Now, start the web server and the database server by clicking the “Start” button next to Apache and MySQL. You’ll find this button in the XAMPP Control Panel.
  • Then verify the installation. For this, you need to open your web browser and type “localhost” in the address bar. If everything works accurately, you’ll be able to see the XAMPP dashboard.

Now, XAMPP can be used for developing and testing web apps on your machine locally. XAMPP can also be configured to suit specific requirements. For example, you can set up virtual hosts, manage databases, or configure PHP.
