A few online articles said that duckduckgo should soon have a browser for Windows (Windows 10).  I could find no recent articles about reviews or user experiences if this browser for Windows has become available.   Any member have experiences with it to say?   (Not interested in duckduckgo extension.  It's the browser for Windows I'm interested.)

None that I know of yet. Jumping from a search engine to a full-blown browser is a big deal.

Been few months since I asked.  Now upon visiting duckduckgo's main page there's a button at lower middle saying "Download Duckduckgo for Windows".  Very tempting!   Still wonder if anybody reading this has tried it yet.  (The browser).

With all due respect, please note that the DuckDuckGo browser for Windows is still BETA software, which implies it could contain several known and unknown bugs. :exclame:

As such, by using that browser, you essentially become a Beta tester for it, and consequently, you should use a spare computer for testing it, but not your main computer. :exclame:

So, if you do not want to become a Beta tester, you should be patient and wait until the Stable Release of it is available, which likely will take some time. But anyway, it is up to you to test it. :thumbup2:

And even though my Member Title indicates that I am a Web Browser Enthusiast, I will not test it when there are 16 STABLE Mozilla Firefox and Chromium-based browsers.

Good luck! :)

I ese DDG  instead of Google and am very happy with it, so much so that I shall, almost certainly, use their browser.

However there is one aspect that bothers me.

How does DDG fund itself?

Based on my research, DuckDuckGo funds itself in Advertising and Affiliate Marketing. :thumbup2:

(And yes, I am using Startpage as my favorite search engine.)

I never knew about that article and in the online SEARCHES I did, that one never was given in listings.  So now, I did read it.  The only disadvantage or suggestion of possible trouble was in the very last sentence "..., so instability and performance issues are to be expected.".   I have no idea exactly what that means and no idea what that would look like.

Advice from a few other recent response posts are enough that I tend now to choose to not try the DDG browser.

As it happens, I beta tested a web browser for 2.5 months in 2022, namely the Ghostery Private Browser, which used to be called the Ghostery Dawn Browser.

However, I was too excited about doing this and made the mistake of using my desktop-only main computer for the browser beta testing, which created system corruption. :(

As such, I experienced instability and performance issues, which were not visible and noticeable while using the Ghostery browser, but instead, they damaged my system. :(

Afterward, I ran system maintenance tools such as Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM), System File Checker (SFC), and CheckDisk (CHKDSK).

And SFC found integrity violations that it successfully repaired, and occasionally, I run the above tools to ensure system stability, so I deeply regret the beta testing. :(

Consequently, experiencing the above is my reasoning for deciding not to beta-test the DuckDuckGo browser for Windows or any browser in the future. :(

But as a Web Browser Enthusiast, I instead enjoy using my 15-16 STABLE Mozilla Firefox and Chromium-based browsers, which is reasonable.

Good luck! :)

Not every system would develop instability and performance issues. I've ran stable untested systems like cinnamon that gave others no issues but gave me issues gaming and other annoyances I didn't use it but chose mint xfce. I say try it and see.

Okay, but if one decides to beta test software, such as, in this case, a web browser, it is imperative to do so safely. :exclame:

As such, there is an article on the Windows Sandbox: How to Safely Test Software Without Ruining Your Computer. :thumbup2:

One can alternatively use a reputable 3rd-party Sandbox tool for the same purpose, but as with the above, I have almost no personal experience.

Consequently, I cannot recommend any specific Sandbox tool, but hopefully, other members can do so, and thank you! :)

As by response posts #12 and #13,  I will NOT try the beta edition of the new Duckduckgo Browser for Windows.  I appreciate the discussions given.
