I recently updated Firefox to a newer version.  I found that when using the up/down arrows on the side scroll, the scrolling is really slow compared to previous versions.  Is there a configuration item that can adjust the speed?  My searches have brought up ways to change the "mousewheel" scrolling, but that is not what I am looking for.  Thanks.

Hi:

Most browser issues, such as slowness & crashes, originate in the user's profile, rather than in the program itself.

Many variables could be contributing.

I suggest following in order the *stepwise* troubleshooting procedures here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems

Let us know how it goes

Edit: if none of those steps resolve the issue, then we'll need to look more closely at your system hardware, software & other variables

In addition to the above, please tell us really quickly:

What version of Windows?

What version of Firefox?

I was going to wait to ask about that, but the answers may significantly impact the advice we offer.

Cheers

You may have too many extensions installed which could be the issue.  Use Safe/Mode/Troubleshooting Mode URL from Post # 2  as it will start FF with no extensions so that will determine if they maybe the issue.

Can look at things but there are Extensions : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-CA/firefox/search/?q=Smooth%20Scrolling  Try : yet another smooth scrolling Extension.

Can also go into Advanced area by typing or copy/paste about:config into the Address Bar (Wonder Bar) and accept the risk.

Copy/paste : toolkit.scrollbox.verticalScrollDistance and can change the numerical number up or down. NOTE: Make sure you keep track of what you do to reverse it if need beNOTE: need to restart Firefox for changes to take effect.

Can also try in about:config  - general.smoothScroll.lines.durationMaxMS  and general.smoothScroll.lines.durationMinMS  can go to 0 if need to.  Suggest start there.  Remember save info for what you change to set it back.

All changes take effect on Firefox Restart.

Can run from Start Menu : Disk CleanUp then run it again and Click the box : Clean System Files.

As well just to make sure run : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/  Do not skip the last step.

Note : if it finds anything keep the log.

As to User Profiles, Adware, and Disk Cleanup, this is both a fresh install of Windows and a new install of Firefox.  Further, if I uninstall FF and re-install the old version, it works fine.

toolkit.scrollbox.verticalScrollDistance --I found that this setting changes how far the page moves on one click of an up/down arrow.

general.smoothScroll.lines.durationMaxMS -- this is the one.  This does what I needed.  (!!)

general.smoothScroll.lines.durationMinMS--I didn't need to try this one.

Thanks!

Glad that worked out for you. :thumbup2:

Always keep a notepad of changes made so in case another version may need to change that again or change back.

Thanks for letting us know
