Firefox was just not opening properly on my PC. So I decided to uninatl it. I used Revo Uninstaller to remove it. I then downloaded Firefox and installed it on my PC. I double checked all my Firefox settings on another PC so they're the same on the one on which I have installed it anew. However, I have one minor problem that I woud like to resolve. In this new instal I'm only given one choice of lanuage, which is American English. I want it to be British English. Is there anything I can do to get British English? I've never previously encountered this problem when installing Firefox on any other computer.

This the US page; I presume there is a similar page in the UK where you can manually select your desired language version:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

Having said that, I presume the built-in Fx updater or the Fx download page you are visiting is probably sniffing your current Fx install version & sending you to the English US version.

Or perhaps your SYSTEM language is set to English (US)?

EDIT: Uninstalling only the program itself leaves behind your user profile & other elements. For a proper clean uninstall, see here:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer
***Be sure to backup your bookmarks before doing this***

Yes, I will post back with the outcome. I'm going to try and do it now. I know it's frustrating when people ask for help, it's given and when their problem is solved they never report back. I always try to report back to report whether my problem was solved or if I'm still having difficulties.

I am grateful for the link to Mozilla's website to choose a language version of Firefox. I have used this and now have the British English version.

For the information of other people who may read this thread the Mozilla guide to uninstalling Firefox is not the best way to go. When I did the first uninstal earlier today I used Revo Uninstaller. This gives you a complete uninstal. When I downloaded and installed Firefox it didn't know I'd previously had Firefox and I had to import my Bookmarks from the backup.

When I uninstalled the American English version of Firefox later in the day I followed Mozilla's method. In fact it isn't theirs. They just tell you to use the standard Windows method of uninstalling an application. Unlike using Revo Uninstaller it obviously leaves things behind. When I did my second install of Firefox today, the new install knew I'd had Firefox previously and my Bookmarks were there. I do recommend using something like Revo Unistaller if you want to make sure something is fully uninstalled from your PC.

At least I have what I want: a functioning version of Firefox and the language version I wanted.

Hi, for future reference the UK website is : https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/browsers/ and would come with GB English and no need for the language pack.

(i have no choice for CA just GB or US)

You can get a English Dictionary here : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-CA/firefox/search/?q=British-English%20Dictionary

When you speak of leftovers it is designed that way so that your Profile : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles

is left behind which contains your Bookmarks and Passwords and User Preferences.

If wanting to backup your bookmarks for a clean install : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer

and Import for restoring them.

Passwords/logins : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-login-data-firefox

Glad finally got your install. :=}

@mcb59:

Yes, @Pkshadow is correct. As i mentioned earlier, you may have have missed the bit about removing "user data and settings" for a complete, clean uninstall. "Uninstalling" only the program intentionally & by design leaves those bits (including bookmarks) behind. Using Revo likely accomplished more or less the same thing as a full uninstall that included both the program itself AND "user data and settings". A different means to the same endpoint. ;-)

But, for anyone reading this thread who opts for Revo, if you had used Revo *without* first backing up or exporting your bookmarks, you would have been sorely disappointed to find them gone! Fortunately, that is in part why "removing user data and settings" is a separate process: the unsuspecting user would otherwise lose all their precious bookmarks during an "uninstall".

****Having said all that, I'm glad you resolved your issue & were able to install the English (British) version. I presume the built-in Fx updater will keep you on that version from now on.

Thanks for closing the loop.

Cheers

I should have added that. I always have my Mozilla Firefox Bookmarks backed-up. I always do it even before allowing Mozilla Firefox to update.

So, yes if you do want a full uninstall use something live Revo Uninstaller. Just back up your Bookmarks first. Mozilla provide clear instructions on how to do it. It's very simple and would take you about a minute and about the same time to import them to any fresh install of Firefox.

I wanted a full uninstall and a full, clean install because I was having problems. I didn't want Firefox leaving behind any 'orphan' files that may have perpetuated my problem. Doing the whole process took no more than 30 minutes of my time.

Another method to download Firefox in your preferred language is to visit https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/. Here you can choose your language and architecture too. Typically you will choose Firefox, Windows 64-bit and then your language.

Yes, that was already advised in Reply #2 (a slightly different URL with a similar list of Fx installers in different languages). ;-)

FWIW The Topic Starter already reported in Reply #6 that his issue was resolved. :-)

Respectfully submitted
