Hello,

I am using a browser extension to make a redirect to a website but it doesn't seem to work. Can someone help me out?

Website redirects can be accomplished without the browser extension by using the host file.

If you are interested, I will post instructions.

Yes, it does work, and as I understand it, you are using the macOS, the Safari browser, the StopTheMadness browser extension, and the website to be redirected from is reddit.com to new.reddit.com.

FWIW, there is an article on StopTheMadness for macOS Safari Support. It has a dedicated section on Redirects outlining the specific function of automatically redirecting one website to another.

However, according to the article above, reddit.com is mentioned in the Known Website Compatibility Issues list, which means that the Protect scrolling function will NOT work and should be DISABLED.

But anyway, the Redirection function should still work independently of the Protect scrolling function, and "In these cases[,] you may want to create custom website options and disable the specific feature."

Nevertheless, I have NO personal experience with your operating system, browser, browser extension, or redirection website. After all, I do NOT want to use any social media because I value online privacy.

Nonetheless, from what I read, I would recommend using the following website addresses: "https://www.reddit.com/" and "https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/new/" WITHOUT the quotes, which should work.

However, I already noticed that upon clicking the https://www.reddit.com/ address, it maybe gets automatically redirected to https://www.reddit.com/?rdt=36988, but I am NO expert on redirection. :(

As such, I would like to ask if you could please try those addresses and let us know the result.

Good luck! :)

Okay, I am sorry, but interestingly, the redirection was a temporary issue when I composed my previous post, but somehow, it was fixed upon posting, but please, do take your time.

And in the meantime, maybe someone else who are more knowlegeable on redirection might chime in with their observations... :)

Edit: Glad to hear that you resolved your issue. :)

You are welcome, Meg! :)

FWIW, there is an article on How To Find and Edit Your Mac Hosts File (in 4 Steps).

You could try to add one line of text to the Hosts File with the following: "https://www.reddit.com/ https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/new/" WITHOUT the quotes.

However, if you are NOT comfortable doing this, please start a new topic in the BC Mac OS Forum wherein you ask for help on how to do it.

Good luck! :)

The hosts file is grossly depreciated. It was used once in a galaxy far away. It was there before bind was created. It is advisable not to use it.
