Hey there. Non computer guy with a problem hooking up an almost new laptop to my Tmobile wireless modem/router.

This is my computer, bought at Best buy in Nov

Lenovo - Ideapad 3i 15.6" FHD Touch Laptop - Core i5-1155G7 with 8GB Memory - 512GB SSD

I am using the tmobile internet on both my TVs, another laptop and home computer and phones.  All work fine.

This new computer worked fine at home for first few months. Then slowly needed a reboot or took awhile. Now, although it shows connected, and will initially open up either Chrome or Edge, neither will work past the first initial screen and maybe one other click...ie Yahoo, but then says can't find internet.

Laptop works everywhere else but at home.  Geeksquad says all good with the laptop, brought it in.  Tmobile says wireless network working fine.  Lenova says it's not a hardware issue and to get any further help with the software side, I have to pay them some more money. (still under warranty of course)  They were ZERO help.

Have rebooted anything and everything many times. Deleted networks and renamed them as Tmobile suggested. But still won't hook up, while all other devices work fine.

Not sure whether to ditch the laptop or Tmobile, but they are both new so need to figure it out.

Thanks for any ideas.  (I'll have to bring it to work to download anything as obviously, can't do much at home)

Hi, Welcome to BC

I think this is your Support Page : https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/3-series/ideapad-3-15iil05/downloads/driver-list

Are you up to date on BIOS and the rest of your drivers here including your network ?    Try the Diagnostic from the page.

Not to put a damper on your system but 8GB Memory - 512GB SSD is not much and system is bogging down for lack of Ram.

Can also try this : https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/  Do not skip the last step it will reset your network.

Also try from Start -->Search type CMD for a Dos Command Prompt and right click the CMD for Administrator then type in the Dos Prompt    ipconfig /release

and reboot and should search for a network and connect.    Can also use the Command    ipconfig /renew

Most of these still work : Reset the network on the system

Open Settings
Click on Network & Internet
Click on Status
Click on Network reset
Click the Reset now button
Click Yes to confirm and let your computer restart

It may take a few extra time for the system to completely reboot since it is rebuilding the network then try the network and let us know.

The other way is to run some commands through the Administrator Command Prompt.

Open an Administrator Command Prompt

Type the following commands, pressing Enter after each command:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
nbtstat -R
nbtstat -RR
netsh int reset all
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh int ipv6 reset
netsh int ipv4 reset
netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the computer

After considering all aspects, I suspicion your NIC is failing. Reason: the lap's internet connection started acting strangely before it finally failed. Everything else is 100% ok in the house.

I suggest trying a USB dongle before trashing the computer. I have used TP link several times when NICs went bad and had good results, but there are many varieties.

The only other answer seems questionable, but it's the only one that takes in to account all the aspects of the problem:  your ISP has a problem with your connection.

(as to a personal note have been having issues with my connection dropping off.) (fixing my issue has been to look up the network adapter in Device Manager and go to the makers website of the Network Chip.) (Upon finding my Intel product on the site to install the current drivers for it) (This has thus fixed my issue each time.)

Note : Object is to make sure Microsoft does not replace the Manufacturers Drivers with their own.  Do not take MS Drivers for it or Video and all else if Lenovo still supports it.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/146562-prevent-windows-update-updating-specific-device-driver.html  Note : remember what you did in case need to reverse it.

Depending on the UNKNOWN Wireless it mayb that Sleep / Hibernation and Wake is the issue.  May have to Open Restore Points and turn it off to delete previous information that is causing the issue.

As to turning it back on this can be done when the issue seems stable.

Suggest open Device Manager and let ius know what Devices are under Network or for your self.

If Intel may have to install Intel Driver and Support Assistant and take drivers from them before actually need to.  It is also possible Realtek maybe involved and it's driver is replaced.

As well Bluetooth maybe involved as well.

EDIT : if not needed in Properties of Device Turn Off : Allow to Wake the Device.
