Slow internet speeds on desktop only.

Hello, so I am having an issue with slow Wi-Fi speeds, however the problem seems to only be happening with my desktop, and I’m not sure how to fix it. At the moment, I am connected to the Wi-Fi using a TP-Link t4u plus. The way my internet is set up, I have two separate SSIDs I can connect to. One which uses the 5GHz band and a guest one which uses the 2.4GHz band. Normally when connected to the 5GHz band I would get around 300Mbps, however for some reason for the last few days I only seem to be getting 30Mbps on that band and actually get faster speeds on the 2.4GHz band where I get closer to 70Mbps. The thing is when I do the speed test from my phone or laptop which is the same distance from the router the speeds are normal, so the issue seems to be confined to my desktop. I have tried several things, including restarting the computer, unplugging the TP-Link adapter and plugging it back in, as well as restarting the router and the 5GHz band. I also tried renewing the IP address and resetting the TCP/IP.

 

Hi, so was the 1st thing you did after installing Windows was to install all your Drivers starting with the Chipset, SATA, Video then the lesser drivers from your Motherboard Support Page including your Network Drivers ??

Yes I made sure to install to the drivers. However looking at the support page for the motherboard the only drivers I see related to networking are for LAN, Also i'm prtetty sure the speeds were fine at first on the new PC as I was getting my normal download speeds. The only reason I noticed any issues were because my download speeds were so low so this seems to be a more recent issue. As you reuqested I posted both reports below.

Stop using CCleaner, try System Ninja as it does not go after system files and/or MS PC Manager

 

NOTE : All drives must have 15% or more Free at all times.  Start deleting as you have only 49.07 GB free and need : 280 GB free at all times.

 

Turn off or uninstall : C:\Program Files\MiniTool Partition Wizard 12\updatechecker.exe

 

Why is there Lenovo stuff on here ??   Stop using MS Update Drivers.

For Uninstall use Geek Uninstaller or Revo Uninstaller as they get more left overs.

 

@ this time Support is suspended due to SSD is too full and deletion needs to take place to make room.

As well OP has game cracks installed.

If you still don't want to continue to help, that is up to you. However, what you listed is not a game crack but a trainer program which is used for cheats for single player game and that I have had the trainer for a while and the speeds were fine then. Also, I agree that I could free up more space on my SSD, however I don't see how that would be an issue since when I connect to the other SSID that uses the 2.4GHz band the speeds are normal. Also, I tried the other stuff you suggested with no luck

Ok please do not use the Quote All box that appears for you.  There is no reason to Quote All ever.  Use the Quote Tool in the above where typing if need to draw attention to a specific.

 

Thanks for updating that.  Policy is not to work on systems that have cracked games/programs.  Though cheat stuff still has adverse effects on systems when installed.

These can never be ruled out as the cause of the issue unless removed.

 

C: drive must have 15% or more free at all times for the Swap File, Temp Files, Windows Update files and for other programs that are installed on C: that you do not know how they may effect things.

So no updates if no room, Networking can become slower due to files going back and forth and then finding no room to put a file., Swap Files are the same as well as Temp.

They (files and lack of space) can create havoc in many forms.  This must be brought to at least the minimal range of  280 GB free at all times before can continue helping.

 

Due to the above and the need to uninstall as was explained the above MTB Report will no longer be valid way to help as per the changes that will take place.

 

Uninstall to carry on please.

Wow, this seemed to fix the issue. Although it's weird because when I tested the speeds from my phone they were fine even though I was right next to the computer, so the phone would have been about the same distance to the Xbox receiver as the tp-link adapter was, so I guess only the computer was affected by the interference.

Sorry about that, I didn't see a reply button and just wanted to make sure you knew what I was replying to. Although I should have just deleted all the irrelevant stuff so it wouldn't clog up the page.

Your phone was likely using a different channel on the 5ghz band as the Xbox receiver so try finding a channel thst doesn't overlap or near the Xbox receiver with a wifi analyzer.

Have you try to disable any power-saving features for your Wi-Fi adapter in the device manager settings?  Sometimes, these settings can impact performance, or check the adapter settings on your desktop to ensure it is configured to connect to the 5GHz band and not defaulting to the 2.4GHz band. Also, ensure that it is using the appropriate wireless security settings (e.g., WPA2-PSK).
