I'm looking into extending some Cat5 because, unfortunately, running new lines just isn't an option. Over the course of my career, I've had nothing but back luck with female-to-female RJ45 couplers. It's just a service call waiting to happen, as far as I'm concerned. But I saw these junction boxes and wondered if anyone has ever had any experience with these?

To the current MDF where the lines currently terminate (but will be turned into an IDF). Then extended to the new MDF.

Didn't answer the question.

Indoor or outdoor?

First off: you didn't ask if it was indoors or outdoors. You simply asked "where" to which I clearly answered.

Second: those are indoor rated junction boxes. If I was running lines outside, I would have asked about outdoor rated boxes.

Lastly: it doesn't matter where they are. I simply asked if anyone had experience with them.

It's a simple question, dude.

Indoor could be a high humid area exposed to constant moisture

Outdoor can be in dry conditions

So yes it matters where they will be installed.

Those are rated for outdoor.

And if in a business they may need to be fire code ready.

So my question addresses multiple aspects of usage and installation.

You're seriously overthinking it, dude. Just wanted to know what people's experiences where with punchdown style junction boxes versus female to female couplers. I thought my question was pretty straightforward but I guess I'm wrong. Either way, forget I asked.

And experiences will vary in how and where they are used.
