First, I'm searching for a modem/router combo and seeking the best device on a budget. I don't need to be extremely cheap but perhaps around the $100 area and will consider $150 but hoping there are good devices for under $100.

Second, I already have a Motorla modem with a Netgear Nighthawk router. My service is intermittent every so often with a outage for a few minutes a few times throughout the day. SO my provider sent out a tech who suggested the new modem/router combo because my Motorola is over 7 years old and a wise idea to do so. I did have an Asus router which finally took a dump and thus, the Netgear took it's place. So I thought maybe the tech is correct about replacing now. But the kicker is, he said I can still use the Netgear router even with a modem/router combo and put devices on each one if I needed. True?

Thank you for any suggestions on the modem router combo.

2nd part :you do not mention if you have kept your Netgear Nighthawk router updated with Firmware.  If not no, if so yes/pssibly.

You never stated who your ISP is. To rule out issues have your ISP send you a leased unit to see what is going on while having them look at the errors and power levels that your modem is seeing. Also have them run a "Home run" from the outside Demarc to your modem with new Coax.

New coax was installed last summer but I'm uncertain what tests were performed. Currently, they just said everything looks good. The tech came and said the same then suggested the new modem/router combo. Considering the age and the fact my router did stop working a couple weeks ago, I didn't think it was a bad idea as things eventually die. To avoid a rush purchase and long lapse without service, it's not a bad idea to have modem ready.

demographics matter, used equipment is all over the world.    Without having some idea as per a Motherboard could search send you to the US ARIN site when you actually need the Asian Pacific site APNIC info going on.

So yes there is a reason as well parts and stuff being dismantled or sold as scrap or donated I could be talking with someone in India or some place else as this is a World Wide Site Help Forum.  Nobody from Space yet ....
