Historically i don't remember having so many disabled things on so many websites JUST from disabling javascript.

Is this done on a site to site basis by the property owner or more targeted approach toward groups by ads and other services ? Or, am i thinking of cookies perhaps which used to "break" or disable functions on web sites?

It's kinda bleeped up to put options to disable bleep that literally breaks the bleeping web. The internet is designed to take EVERYTHING, make it better, by giving us less and less and less and then raving about technology being so great and wonderful when it's literally regressed so hard, i feel dumber every day while using google, chrome or their stupid apis

I remember there was a time when it was considered important for a website to offer a satisfactory experience if Javascript was turned off. This may have been partly due to provide access to people with disabilities. I know from personal professional experience that certain websites, like those that provide Medicare health plans, this is required by law. As far as the Internet at large, Javascript is employed at will by most website owners to extend and enhance HTML.

Cookies are used to track website usage behavior. At what point do users enter and exit the site and what parts of the site do they use among other things. This helps website owners understand if their tactics used on their website are achieving intended goals.

Some people are concerned sites that use Javascript will inject malicious things into their devices and want the option to turn Javascript off. Personally, I don't think I ever turned Javascript off and feel that I practice safe Internet use and don't need to worry about Javascript.

For me, the worst thing to happen on the net is the abolishment of net neutrality by a past president I choose not to mention. It has turned a useful resource into an endless parade of advertisements. And, we have to pay to see the ads. What a shame.

The first web browser was created in 1990. The HTML had no CSS and JavaScript did not exist. HTML was more of a word-processing document format. Scripting was added later. Currently JavaScript is nearly entirely the only language used for scripting in websites. HTML has no logic features other than use of scripting. Understanding the importance of scripting might be difficult for nonprogrammers; if you do not understand then my only suggestion is to assume there is a good reason for requiring JavaScript.

Since Browsers now do not need to have Java installed as they can render scripts unless blocked or dangerous there is no need to have Java installed unless a program or a older game needs to have it.  In most cases can get the newer program or game and then not need it also.

Blocking cookies from 1st party 2nd, 3rd would need to figure out what you have done in your browser settings or your adblocker.

But in general you are correct.  If a site does not let me see what I want I find another that will.

As for searching I used to be a whiz at it but now there is so much crap as you say out there :=}

As this sounds more like a rant than a question should this maybe be moved to General Chat.

I see Java mentioned nowhere (else) in this discussion.

I do not know who you is.
