Am just about to reload my windows 10, and make a clean start on a SSD,have been using ms office 2007,but reading how bad it is to use outdated software may look for an alternative.I only ever work on doc or spreadsheets on my PC,never send or open received unless from a trusted source, therefore is it safe to continue with what i know and like. What alternative is best, have looked at libre office 7,but not sure i like the layout, maybe i could get used to it,or is something else a better match, libre office seems to get most mentions in the posts i read. Most of my work is in spreadsheets rather than word, and what am i likely to lose if i save a xlsx as a odf.

Softmaker Free Office - It's very compatible with Microsoft Office. TextMaker is the Word alternative. Planmaker is the Excel alternative

Hi:

You ask about Word, but you say you work with spreadsheets (that is an Excel thing).
And you don't specify if you want free or paid.

Having said that:

MS 365 (previously known as MS Office 365),
https://www.office.com/

or:

(Offered "as is")
https://www.techradar.com/news/best-microsoft-office-alternative
(Basic internet search will turn up other reviews & comparisons)

No option suits all users, computing needs or budgets.
Research the alternatives to find one that best meets those variables for you.

Cheers

There are FREE vs. PAID options, and standalone/local vs. cloud options.

Lots of choices...

Like John (post #2) I have been using Softmaker for years. Another nice feature is that you can save your spreadsheet as MS docs if you want. And..it will import MS Excel and read it.
