My budget for the new tablet is: 600

What are the primary uses for this tablet (IE: email, web browsing, playing games, etc)?
Reading my magazines I get from Zinio, and other magazines I get by direct subscription.

What Operating System are you used to or would prefer if any (leave blank if you're unsure)?
It cannot be Windows 10 as Zinio does not support mobile Windows 10 (although I can read Zinio mags on my PC)

How big of a screen would you want?
12"

I already have 3 x10.9"s, a phone and a PC

Will this tablet be for college, work, home etc?

Home, reading magazines only

Do you want to be able to do two things at once, or one thing at a time?
Only for storing and reading the mags.

If I am forced to spend more, I will then want it to become my primary tablet and do web browsing, email etc.

Do you want USB ports to plugin flash drives?

Yes, one to load mags I have downloaded to my PC

I started to think about an Asus Flip, or Chromebook of some sort but a) couldn't find any info on here about Chromebooks and B) a tech friend told me they had very poor storage capacity.

I saw a 12.9" ipad on ebay two days ago for $500USD but it was Gen 1 and I doubt that's going to be functional in the near future as it's getting very old.

Maybe someone could tell me, just out of interest, why Android makers stop at 10.9?

thanks

Well. I am posting from Acer C710 chromebook where I blew away chromeos and made it a linux only chromebook .

Plan on running the doors off of it. Anyways. Used  Windows Tablets are going for cheap on ebay with quad core processers

Ebay tablet auction link

Just something to get you by till you decide on the higher dollar stuff.  My wife likes here Ipad Pro 11' that she uses for work.

The only reason I responded. I was thinking of converting one of those cheap tablets into a linux tablet. If screen too small. Ignore me. Maybe a asus vivo book fits the bill better.

Hello! I don’t really understand the reason behind why you’d need such a wide screen tablet when you could actually go and get a laptop that size. In my point of view, tablets that are handy, somewhere in the 8” to 10” range should be better. But, since you are interested in a 12”+ tablet, that too in the $600 range, you should probably check out eBay.

I did find an iPad Pro 12.9” recently, which should be a perfect fit for your requirements and I’d recommend you to check it out on eBay.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7 12.3” is a great choice.

Huawei Matebook Signature edition is quite affordable at $500 and is 12”, so should be perfect.

As per the original text, I already have 3 tablets of 10.9"  I also have a laptop.  I also have a desktop and a smart phone.

As per original text, I want a 12+" tablet to read my Zinio magazines on.  I do not need yet another small tablet when I already have 3. (one is for day-to-day stuff, one is for my bedside music I play throughout the night and the 3rd is the one I currently read all my magazines on - it is not big enough)

The iPad Pro is definitely not in the $600 range.

Surface Pro is Windows 10.  Matebook is Windows 10.  As I said in the original text, Zinio does NOT support Windows 10 mobile so I cannot use any of them.

I am looking for Android 12+"

There are very few on the market.  I did find a German company called Trekstor, which has a 13" tablet called the Surftab Theatre K13.  It is technically quite low end, and low priced, but it is a 13" Android tablet.  However, it does not appear to be sold in the US, as far as I can tell.

There are some discontinued tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2" and Note Pro 12.2" - which may be found used or refurbished.  They run dated versions of Android however.  Via hacks they may run later versions but it's at your own risk.

Earlier generation, refurbished iPad Pro 12.9's are around for $500 and may be a viable choice.  The Gen 1 2015 models currently will run the latest iPadOS version.

Thanks Jonuk.  Interesting research.  I have been attempting to follow that link to the Surftab.  I see the items but I can't get their purchase tab to give me any price info or purchase details.  Any number of electric scooters but can't make it show me the tablet/s.  Discontinued won't work as my magazine provider, Zinio, only works from Android 4 and up.  The K13 you link to would be great seeing as I only want to read on it and have other devices for other stuff.  Maybe given that Apple is putting out larger tablets now Samsung might see the competition moving that way (not just their 12.9 iPad) and respond?  Thanks for your advice.

I believe some Trekstor devices are sold via BH Photo and Adorama, but as far as I could tell, not that particular one.

The Samsung Tab Pro 12.2 launched with Android KitKat 4.4, and never got any major software updates officially.  At least, that appears to be the position, happy to be corrected.  That's pretty poor for what would have been a flagship tablet, IMO and it's now out of support.  Apple, love or loath them, at least do update their devices for quite some time.  Unofficially, there are sites that show you how to "root" the device and install much later versions of Android, at the users own risk of course.

From what I've read, the tablet market peaked about 5 years ago, since then lots of companies seem to have slowed releases and slimmed down or even dropped their ranges.   The iPad Pro is really the outlier and their new model is very nice, but at a price...

Still banging on about a large screen tablet.

I am now told by Zinio that they support W10 on mobile, though I remain sceptical.  I have a friend in Canada with a Surface Pro who's going to d/l Zinio and read a mag then tell me how it worked.

Altering my search a little, can anyone now tell me what options there are for Laptop/Tablet combos where you can separate the screen part from the keyboard part, like the Surface Pro.

Surface Pro is out of my preferred price range but not entirely.

I know Lenovo does a splittable laptop but I see it listed at something like $A4,000!!!

Any others I don't know of?

Thanks.
