My quilting machine robot is run by a Surface Pro tablet with a Linux OS. It can be used with the stylus that came with or a finger. Several days ago the stylus quit working but I could still use my finger. Then a couple of days later, that didn’t work either.

I’ve been told to get a new battery for the stylus, but if that’s the problem why did it respond to my finger after the stylus quit? I’ve ordered fresh batteries but that may not even be the problem. This is how I make my living and I’m dead in the water until I figure it out. Any ideas?

For the finger issue. Did ya clean the screen prior to it not working?

Usually drivers in Windows control whether something works or not.

Might wanna check there.

Battery change in stylus is never a bad idea.

Just noticed you said surface pro with a linux system. Have you a terminal. If so. Follow my instruction on what to type in and hit enter

cd /etc

Hit enter key

ls

hit enter key

Post back here  your results, if any. I am trying to keep this simple because of your user name.

rokytnji, thanks for the reply even though I posted this in the wrong forum section, duh. I clean the screen as needed but can't remember if I did that just before it quit. I've no idea how to check 'drivers' but assume it would require the screen responding to touch, which it won't.

A terminal? I don't understand. This is a dedicated tablet that drives the robot motors on my longarm quilting machine. It will turn on and I get the initial sceen but nothing else works.

Edit to add: my user name is dead on and most of the time even simple is too complicated for me. I bought this thing to save my back, elbows and shoulders from running the quilter manually all day long. Should have known better.

Ok. I am guessing down here on the Texican border that this a Linux embedded operating system. Which is out of my comfort zone. Since it a custom OS just for your machine. The Linux part is kinda a moot point. Kinda like a Windows CE Tablet.

So. To work on your future door stop. You are gonna hafta go to the manufacturer and ask for a new Iso for your machine and instructions on how to install it. Unless it is broken digitizer, cable, wire,etc.....  < hardware problem >

All stuff probably over whelming to you.   I can be full of bull in this post. Since I am not there. Just guessing from far away. So don't worry yet. Maybe some one else here has better advice than I do.

First, thanks again for the replies. I removed the tablet from the machine, turned it on and let the battery go dead. When I plugged it back in the damned thing worked - no clue if it had anything to do with the battery or if it's going to come & go like that in the future.

It still only works with the stylus while before I could use either stylus or finger, but at least I can get some work done now. This system is new and still under warranty so if it's going to commit slow suicide I'm glad it started early. I really appreciate the suggestions. I always hesitate to post for help here because even the simplest explanations go right over my head.

Anyway,

My Chrome book acted funny the other day like this.

My screen locked and reboot and login to a login screen showed it was now not taking inputs.

I figured the Chrome Book got hot while I stepped away to do chores which caused my previous problems. Sun Shine or what ever wrong to make it get hot.

I gave it day. Turned it on. Ran Terminal . My chrome book I converted to AntiX linux instead of ChromeOS from Google.

In terminal I ran sensors to monitor heat while I ran the chromebook.

This happened a few days ago and has not happended since. I chalk this up to bad spot in the universe for me that day.

Glad you got it sorted.

I understand your concerns and I do feel you are just as baffled on why both touchscreen response and stylus pen are not working. I think correcting the stylus issue should resolve your problem once and for all. I’d like to share some of the general troubleshooting tips with you and I hope you find it working again.

•   Windows Update might be a solution even for the finger touch issue. I did find this issue once due to a bug and I was able to resolve simply by performing the update.

•   Restart the laptop after this process and test the UEFI touch functionality.

If you still have problems, then it could be related to the touchscreen driver or the calibration setting.
