I plug my iphone into my PC using an USB connection in order to download pictures.  Both iphone 12 and 14 pro max plugged into windows 10 desktop computer are connected for a time and then disconnect with error that has a warning yellow ! symbol stating: The device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected.  The PC then creates many of these alerts where I need to right click to close several sessions of these and the phone has been disconnected for some time.  It seems like this is some type of virus/malware?  It just seems like the performance of my Pc has been diminished to some degree since this started a few months back.

Plugging the phone back in does not launch file explorer or seen in the tree as a recognized device.  When I launch itunes it does show up on that program where I can sync etc.

Suggestions thoughts would be greatly appreciated!  thanks so much

16 does have issues with USB connections. I have problems when connecting my phone to my car head unit (freezes, disxonnects, will mot connect if battery is below 91%). You are not alone on this problem.

There could be a few reasons why your iPhone is disconnecting from your PC and displaying an error message. Here are a few things you can try among the rest of the mentioned suggestions above:

  1. Check for software conflicts: Make sure that there are no conflicting software programs running on your computer that could be causing the issue. You can try disabling any anti-virus or firewall programs temporarily to see if this solves the problem.
  2. Reset your iPhone: Try resetting your iPhone by holding down the power button and the volume down button until the Apple logo appears. This will not delete any of your data, but it may help to reset any software issues that are causing the problem.
If none of these solutions work, you may need to take your phone to an Apple store or contact Apple support for further assistance.
