Are computers masculine or feminine?
A class learning French and trying to get to grips with gender wondered
if the word "computer" should be masculine or feminine. Split into
two groups, men and women, they were asked to say which they
considered a computer to be, and to give four reasons for their decision.

The women decided that computers are masculine because:

In order to gain their attention, you have to turn them on.

They are full of data, but are still clueless.

They are supposed to help you solve your problems,
but most of the time they are the problem.

As soon as you commit to one, you realise that if you had
waited a little longer, you could have had a better one.

The men decided that computers are feminine because:

No one but their creator understands their internal logic.

The language they use to communicate with each other
    is totally incomprehensible.

Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory
    for later retrieval.

As soon as you commit to them, you spend half your disposable
income on buying accesories for them.

Hey Olds, good moves, man! By quoting someone else you are safe, you can always blame the author!  It's HIS words, not yours. I will have to remember that.....

Grammatical gender and sexual gender are often not the same thing.

If a person makes a mistake applying grammatical gender when using a human language, another person who is familiar with will supply a correction.

Any linguistics expert (or knowledeable enough more than I ) who reads your post may answer better.

In my native gender-inclusive language, Norwegian, a computer is masculine ("En datamaskin").

My favorite gender-neutral language in school was and nowadays is English, wherein a computer is a gender-neutral word, which all words are.

In another gender-inclusive language I learned in school, German, a computer is masculine ("Ein computer").

However, I understand that whether computers are masculine or feminine can vary between other languages. :)

Der Computer.

also less common is der Rechner.

Der is masculine.

However you are right - ein computer is correct.

Ein is an indefinite article and der is a definite article.

IIRC correctly my Father explained to me as a young boy - this description for determining the word gender ....if it is hard, vertical, energetic, bright and hot then in the German language it is probably masculine. If it is soft, horizontal, dark, less energetic and cool, then it is feminine. His words, not mine!

Myself I refer to the computer as a 'she'. Maybe that is wrong or even politically incorrect,  but I don't care!

FIRST,  someone should tell us if creating that file and running that code is safe, but ---------

Found interesting but not tried it....

Interesting article worth trying, maybe later.

I think that you should be banned, for expecting computers to identify as one of only two sexes

I suppose the name given to the computer also indicates it's gender...Kratos, or Tommy-boy and Chun Li or Suzy-Q for examples.
