Yes.... 1 and 2... I actually had windows installed on this exact system initially. It was freezing randomly after 5 to 10 min of use. I reinstalled windows 10 again and same issue. Then as I tried again, it wouldn't even make it through the install. After 2 or 3 attempts, it then wouldn't go past the motherboard screen.

Well, some dummy forgot that he actually had a brand spanking new 650 watt EVGA sitting in the closet. So I plugged that into the whole system and fired it up and still got the same freeze so now I know it's not the power supply. I am out of ideas so I think it's time to gut the system and start over

Hi, you need to let us know what you are doing. Especially when did Clean Install.

All things have mentioned all most do not matter.

650 watts is usually under powering these days.

You as well need to let us know that you are switching systems and parts around.  We are not there and do not know what is going on.

If can do a clean install you can install the Chipset.  Did you install the Chipset as has been Recommended, Then at this Point it is Required.

If have time to do all what you have done then there is no valid reason the chipset was not installed.

All I have ever done for over 20 years is clean installs on systems. It's exactly what I have tried to do with this one from day one. And yes, I know to install the chipsets and the drivers and everything else once Windows is installed. It is exactly what I was trying to do when this was initially put together and it froze on me. I have tried to do a clean install multiple times and each time the system was taking less time to freeze up and it is now at the point where Windows would start to load is where it's freezing. So I guess installing chipsets and drivers is a moot point right now

Thanks for clarifying.

Yes agree Gut the System.

Test ram on another system.  Do 4 passes of Memtest on single strip then do another 4 passes. Then test the other.

Test GPU and PSU on another system.

Try installing Windows on the drive in another system or install drive (maker unknown) and test with makers tools and Crystal Disk Info and or run Chkdsk /r on it.

Let us know how you make out.

I am out of ideas so I think it's time to gut the system and start over

If not too late;

Before opening up the case again;

With no Windows USB stick or Linux media in the computer do the below;

Make sure that you have a keyboard hooked up.

Restart the PC and access the BIOS.

Leave the PC sitting in the BIOS for a good while, this of course unless it turns off on you.

If the PC still turns off, open up the case and do the below;

Remove the CMOS battery.

Check that the HS is securely attached atop of the CPU.

Check that the CPU fan is connected to the correct fan header, this being the one that is furthest away from the CPU.

check that all connections are secure.

Reseat the RAM and GPU.

Put the CMOS battery back in.

Hook up the screen, keyboard and power cord, power up with fingers crossed.

When you post back with an update can you also let us know whether or not the CPU and HS were properly cleaned off of the old thermal compound and then a good quality compound correctly applied.

It ran Tues from 3pm all the way to Wed morning 6am when I was at work. It was doing a Memtest86 and it passed all 4 tests.

The CPU fan is connected to the header that is labeled CPU fan on the top right of the mobo

All connections were done and cleaned on both motherboards. I'm starting to thing the CPU itself is glitched

That aforementioned would normally suggest that the CPU is okay.

You have addressed but two things that were mentioned in my reply #23  :(

I got fed up and parted it out in favor of all new stuff. Thanks for your input everyone. In 20 years of building, I've never had a @%$#!&%!!! like this one. Aggravated would be sugarcoating it...

Went with
Intel i5 12600k
Gigabyte Aorus B760 Elite AX
32gb Corsair DDR5 5600mhz
1tb Hynix Gold P31 M.2
...and the EVGA 650w power supply I successfully hid from myself for some reason.

I'll put her AMD RX580 back in after I get it all set up. She only plays Roblox and a little Mindcraft so no need for a new GPU

Hi, why would you go with DDR5 5600mhz when the Chip Specs say Max Speed of ram : DDR5 4800 MT/s   and that is before XMP

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/134589/intel-core-i5-12600k-processor-20m-cache-up-to-4-90-ghz.html

Asking for more issues.
