HP laptop screen periodically goes black.

Thanks for the update.

FWIW, whether it's visible externally or not, it's highly likely a 10-yr-old laptop will have at least some dust inside...

I'm not sure if the problem has yet been isolated to hardware vs. software.
It may be a combination....

If you have a hair drier, take the lappy outdoors and blow through all the exit ports, in both directions. I would do it several times.

 

It is one of the easiest cures in the book

So I deleted spybot and Malewarebytes along with a bunch of apps like the printers, wildtangent, and some other like skype. I came in this morning and opened up the laptop screen and it is still on and working.

 

So far so good.
