There are two questions in your post, to take them one at a time.
Vista doesn't consume 'too much resources'. This was a consequence of the OEMs shipping out a lot of boxes towards the end of the XP era with 'Vista ready' stickers on them. Most of these boxes weren't Vista ready, they were under specified with the result that Vista crawled on them which was largely responsible for Vista getting its bad reputation as a 'resource hog'. Yes, Vista required more resources than XP to run well but the 4GB of RAM that is regarded as a mininum for running Win 7 would make a Vista machine fly.
Is it worth installing ? Very much an individual decision but my opinion would be no mainly because it is completely out of manufacturer's support. On top of that in many respects XP was a better OS and in virtually every respect Win 7 is a far better one. But if you are really looking for a Windows OS to use for serious purposes you now have to look at Win 10. Once you get to grips with it it really is a pretty good OS. There are aspects of it which annoy me, particularly MS's approach to 'apps' most of which, in my opinion, are rubbish but I can live with that.
So, Vista doesn't consume 'too much resources', it does need more than XP but it doesn't need as much as Win 7. I would not advise it for serious regular front line use but if you just wish to experiment with it then fine, go ahead.
