If your end objective is to have Windows 10 then I would install Windows 10 straight away then call Microsoft to activate as cryptodan suggested. They may not activate the OS if what you installed was an OEM version of Windows 7 Pro. If you don't want to install Windows 10 straight away then forget installing Vista and install Windows 7 Pro. After Windows 7 is installed go to the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool page and click the "Update This PC" button.

Even doing Update PC from Windows 7 may still give you a problem with activation as Windows 10 went to digital licenses based on your hardware ID which is now borked because of the new motherboard unless the motherboard was the exact same model. It has a better chance of success if your Windows 7 Pro is a Retail vs OEM version.

Calling Microsoft after installing Windows 10 and explaining why you had to change the motherboard is the best way forward.

Even with a major hardware change like a different motherboard?

I've gotten indications that I might have a Harddrive problem as I tried to install with the USB device so, I created a CD of Win ,10 and attempted to install it in the target unit and got " No boot device detected etc etc etc which is another indication of possible Harddrive problems so, let me ask; If I hookup an external harddrive and try to install using the disc from that and I get the same response then I ,can discount the Harddrive and if it starts then it's proof that the Harddrive in the target unit is failing. I need to say that before I tried the CD I made sure that the Harddrive was at the top of the order.

Oh good y

You know that is the question I have been asking. When all the well meaning people respond  to my problem with answers and offer things to do, I have  ask to what and finally, jus t the other day somebody told me that the responses come from within the target and not the devices I am using t o  try to install t he program. So, the responses I got from using different installation media both add up to a possible harddrive problem. That's the way I see it but on the other hand, how can it be explained that I can take a Vista Home Disc and follow it with Vista Business and install one right after the other with no problem. It would see to me that if there is a harddrive problem, it would show up there as well but cannot say for sure since my computer expertise is in asking quest ions and not answering them.

If a windows Vista DVD boots and installs and you can use it, then you can safely assume that the hard drive is okay.

How have you created the windows 10 installer?

After getting that "Invalid Partition Table" using the USB device to install Win 10, I decided to try to install it with a CD, So, I created a CD with windows t0 and proceeded to install it on the wiped target. Now I get, no boot device detected, put a disc in etc.etc. etc. So why would I get no device detected when the CD is in the computer,.  I tried setting the BIOS with the "on board Hard  Drive as #1 and synced it with the settings on key 12. That didn't work so I set the boot order again with On board CD drive as @1 and still got the same message.
