Windows 98 SE Help in installing

Hi people.

Bang on JohnC - burnt another disc with Imgburn, got it to work, however . . . . . . . .

So, I've the stripped the pc so that all that is connected to the motherboard is the HDD, CD Rom, Floppy drive. WIn98 copies the files across no probs, creates a startup floppy as you would expect, then hits the restart option. Here it fails, saying there are not enough resources, querying the config.sys and auto exec.bat files. Did some searching online, found a few edits but noting works????????? 

Btw - downloaded XP Pro SP2 ISO - didn't run even though I used Imgburn to make the disc!!!

No seriously, are you saying if I find PNP in the bios to select sharing?  Also, on IRQ, do I need PCI sharing? Bearing in mind, there's nothing attached to a PCI slot?

They are all set at PCI device - the only other option is 'reserved.'

Dram is set to Non-OS2 - should this be set to OS2?

If all else fails see the second link in my post #2. In that post that I linked to see the first link. It's an XP iso with SP3.

The way I have always installed Windows 95 and 98 is to male a folder on the hard drive called Win98 then copy all the files from the win98 folder on the cd to that folder and run setup from there and not the cd.

After the first boot the cdrom drivers are not loaded. The installation looks for files on the cd to continue and cant find them. Running setup from the hard drive and not from the cd eliminates that problem and should always work.

I used to work for Gateway 2000 during the Windows 95 rollout and subsequently Windows 98. Copying the win98 folder from the cd to a win98 folder on the hard drive is the way the technicians were always trained to do it. It will work if you do that.

Only setting you need to mess with in the BIOS is to make sure that the date and time are correct. Reset everything else back to the defaults.
