There are Thermal Pads that can cover and if enough room to slide in.   (I have 1 for the laptop installed at factory).

As well as other Thermal Pads made for SSD's  Others is cut to shape.  Others are made be companies that sold the Heat Sink/fan/Water/whatever.

The heatpipe is not always hot at the other end. However, if you decide to buy a new cooler, you can usually get them at a much lower price on eBay.

Also, have you checked that the thermal compound is not worn out? It has a fixed life, and depending on what type of compound/pad used, it may need to be reapplied. In case you aren't aware, you need to be careful replacing it. The old compound should be wiped off with 99% isoproply alchol. I usually use a coffee filter for this. Never touch the heatsink surface or the CPU surface, as oil from your fingers can get into the microgroove and affect cooling performance. You must then apply the appropriate amount of new thermal compound to the processor or cooler surface.

The manufacturer may have a video on this. If not, Youtube or service manuals are your friends here. Post any questions or problems you run into.

Shplad, yeah, i'd definitely be buying a generic part in replacing the heatsink.

The thermal compound was worn out, so that has been replaced. But it hasn't helped much. I feel it is still the CPU-heatsink-fan area that is the issue, though. I'll just have to replace the paste again when/if i do the heatsink. But i'm trying to use diagnostic tools from HP to figure it out a bit further before buying a new part.

I mcGyvered a bit and stuck a cool pack under my laptop - bottom case on - around where the CPU is and feel like my laptop did stay on longer in using it. So i am feeling like it's a CPU cooling issue. But i'm going to try and test more.

It has to be something with the heatsink.

Using a cool pack under where the cpu/heatsink should be allowed me to run some basic tests using a usb key OS. And basic tests suggest everything is running as it should....factoring in the only way I was able to do those tests, was by keeping the cpu cool myself.

There was a longer time without screen static with the cool pack, but still some boot loops. So the heatsink i think is one part of the issue - if not the whole of it.

Pity it seems heatsinks/pipes don't seem repairable?

Try water, and yes am going to hype Corsair as it is quieter when compare apples to apples most times.

Not a fan of the new software but is better than no software at all I guess.  Never going back.  Too many cases and not enough money..lol.

I do have the oldest 1 with a double fan massive block and pipes still, a Noctua but each to there own.
