In your second image showing USB drive. Click on USB drive. Is the third image what you see after clicking USB drive?

i have installed a usb directly to the camera and then to the c-port of the chromebook in the past year or so. got a message in the top right that said google account or something else. don't get anything now when i do it that way

So the camera is attached directly to the Chromebook via a cable? See my previous post. Is the third image in your post #16 what you get when you click USB drive in the left pane?

Click on DCIM. In that folder you should find some subfolders. In those subfolders will be your photos. You can highlight any of the photos and copy them over to a folder on your Chromebook.
