Well, that is up to you, but just for the record, I have NO personal experience with editing the Hosts File for any purpose because I am an autodidact.

However,
cryptodan
is a well-educated computer expert, and he gives sound advice.

FWIW: It could be an alternative to create a bookmark to https://www.reddit.com/r/reddit/new/.

Good luck! :)

You shouldn't need to edit anything as https://www.reddit.com should automatically take you to the new reddit.

Download and install Speccy - https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy

Run it, and then go to File and Publish Snapshot. Post the resulting link in your next reply

You are not providing enough information.   Are you getting a error, is Defender stopping the opening with a message.  Please supply more information as not being able to open a exe could also be a Viral or Malware Issue.

I tried it with another option, going from Wikipedia to Wikiwand but that broke the whole wiki experience. I guess the addon is bleep and I throwed my money away.

You are right because there is an article on Wikiwand which outlines that:

"In 2021, it was noted that visiting a Wikiwand page made the visitor's device exchange hundreds of requests and several megabytes of data with advertisers." :(

Meg, perhaps you could use a different browser... Firefox.

I may have missed a few posts, but is there a Reddit link posted here that works for you?  If so, bookmark it, and only use your bookmark.  Do not mess with the Safari extension, especially if it does not work.  I would recommend that you UNDO the changes you made for Reddit.  It may be a temporary Reddit bug that they could fix later, and when they do, you do not want the extension to screw everything again (same thing with the host file, do not use it to fix other's bugs).

And yet another thing you can do is erase all cookies and temporary memory in your browser about Reddit.
