Which leads me back to my initial point: I initially had access to the new router but something changed along the way. Do we need to reconfigure/reset the router? Download a driver update?

Nope nothing you can do to associate to the router your card doesn't support the required bare connection to connect.

Check the Wireless Mode setting for your network adapter and make sure it matches the capabilities of the network you're trying to connect to. If it doesn't match, you won't be able to connect, and the network might not appear in the list of available networks.
