For anyone casually reading this thread, "ESU" updates were a "last resort" offered to certain Enterprise, Education & other customers. AFAIK They were/are not available for home users.
And even ESU has ended, as explained here:

Respectfully submitted
Many people use ESU for personal use. I don't see the problem with him using it too. Also he is using a good and reputable anti virus so he should be good.

Exactly, and many local businesses still use Windows 7 for their computers. Even schools. Why can't personal use work with ESU also?

Windows 10 has a compatiblity mode for Window 7. It works with probably 95% of apps, save for a few exceptions (such as those that use a dongle for authentication).
And isn't ESU only for business users, not home users?

Yes. But you can easily get ESU updates on home versions of Windows 7 and he still might use it for the nostalgia.

What apps do you need for work that only work on windows 7?
I've tested with Windows 10 and Adobe CS6 does not work with Windows 10 that well. One of the Python versions I use apparently doesn't like Windows 7.
I am testing with Windows 10 also for finding alternatives of these apps. As soon as I can find a good enough alternative, I will switch over.
I have tried the compatibility mode @Shplad but it's just buggy for me.
But yeah, as I've said when I found a good enough alternative for the two programs I will switch over. All due respect, not wanting to cause a argument over this.
All respect, chkdsk

Work should provide it to you as you shouldn't need to use your own money.
I'll check. Thanks!

@ptbp , @chkdsk:
Since both of you are BC newcomers, just a friendly note:
I’m not sure where or how you (legally) obtained ESU for home use?
If you can please provide a reference or link for doing so, we would be very interested.
If, on the other hand, as you wrote, “many people use ESU for personal use” illegally, please be aware of Forum Rules that prohibit such discussion here at BC. While we are not here to enforce MS software licensing, whether or not you have “a problem with it” is moot:
“How can I purchase ESUs?
Extended Security Updates are available through specific volume licensing programs. Contact your Microsoft partner or account team to learn more. ESUs for select Embedded products are available via your embedded device manufacturer. For ESUs available through the Dynamics 365 Cloud Migration offer, customers can purchase via the Cloud Service Provider (CSP) licensing program.
Coverage will be available in three consecutive 12-month increments following End of Support. Customers cannot buy partial periods (e.g., only 6 months). Extended Security Updates are transacted per year (12-month period), commencing with the End of Support date.
Eligible customers can use the Azure Hybrid Benefit (available to customers with active Software Assurance or Server Subscriptions) to obtain discounts on the license of Azure Virtual Machines (IaaS) or Azure SQL Database Managed Instance (PaaS).”
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/faq/extended-security-updates
Having said that, AFAIK the ESU program (according to the links provided earlier) has ended, even for those participating legally.
And having said all that, discussion of Windows 7’s obsolescence and the “last resort” ESU program (past, present or future) has hijacked this topic from @Shplad, the Topic Starter.
Respectfully submitted & End-of-Discussion for me
Cheers
