Yeah, it is the same topic.

1974darrenh, don't go creating new topics willynilly unless advised to do so.  I know you had good intentions and it would be nice to have it in the right place but now we have confusion.  Staff may feel different but I think it is more confusing to have both of these now and there are more details in the original.

Looks like the Windows partition was moved from the image in post #8. Things are worse now because RAW means the partition table has been lost and or the files system corrupted. The only chance of recovery would be using Testdisk and if that doesn't recover the partition table then the only way to recover files would be to scan the disk with file recovery software.

My pc is unbootable and I need to get RAW files off onto an external drive. Can anyone suggest software that I can run offline that's FREE?

I've tried using Drive Genius which is on Hirens boot cd but after it's sat for 5 hours looking and finding all the RAW files, as soon as you click recover to drive, it requires payment. The software need to be able to run on an unbootable pc.

You can click here to get TestDisk. You should download version 7.1. It is available from the second download button.

The download above includes PhotoRec, but alternative file recovery software is only a web search away.

With some luck, I still fervently hope you will successfully rescue your user files and folders from your C: drive if possible.

However, I prefer creating and validating an automatic weekly disk image partition backup of my entire computer.

As such, I can recover my system or specific files and folders whenever needed, which is an excellent solution.

I use the paid Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office Essentials, but the paid Macrium Reflect 8 Home is an alternative.

There is an article on Macrium Reflect v8.0 User Guide, but learning how to use it will take some time, but it is well worth it.

There is an article on How to perform a clean install of Windows 11, which you can use your Windows 11 ISO to do.

I would recommend that you please do NOT encrypt your system in the future unless you have a particular reason for it, which I respect.

I have already used my three desktop-only computers for over 28.5 years, but I have never used encryption, such as BitLocker or VeraCrypt.

Please let us know how it goes.

Good luck! :)

What did you do to make your C Drive RAW?????

Do you remember what you did since the last photo that caused your drive to be RAW?

How valuable are your files on this disk?

I forgot to mention, that drive only had 2% Free Space left, that is not good, and that may be why your attempts at changing the partition structure failed.  Does it sound right that the drive was that full?

Are you prepared to try Testdisk to recover files?  Because I don't think you can do anything with this drive until there is more space on it to work with.  Once you get the files I assume you need to somehow get those files off there or else any attempt to recover the drive will now work.

Hopefully I'm not speaking out of place for the staff, but would you please stop creating new topics unless you run it by one of the staff, like MoxieMomma etc.  Now you have three topics, but all the good info is in the first.

JohnC is already TRYING to give you some advice, and I have posted some questions there also, but you have abandoned answering those posts now?????  This is quite irritating, asking questions and the very person wanting advice is ignoring those questions!

If you don't want to pay you will have to use the info you ignored that another member posted about Testdisk.  It is not as easy to use as paid for stuff but JohnC may walk you through it if he has time.

@MoxieMomma, Should we continue on here?
