What is the purpose of using uBlock Origin + Adblock Plus?

What is the point of using EMET?
It’s too outdated, better use MalwareBytes Anti-Exploit.

You can add SandboxiePlus to increase security while browsing.

P.S.

You didn’t write which version of Firefox.
Of course you will use Firefox ESR 115.6.0.
Any other version of Firefox should be dropped immediately.

Hello,

I have some addition info and question to you.

It was my mistake that I used Adblock Plus for years and I recently installed Ublock Origin too. I figured out they are the same in purpose and Ublock is better now, so I removed AdBlock Plus. I misunderstood your question here first as I thought you questioning why I use any of theses. :P

I want to use EMET, even it is old, but it protect system wide with all aplications if Im right. Or this program is totaly useless now because of outdate? As I read while MBAE is updated and newer it protect only specific stuffs like Browser. I would use both, but MBAE prompt on install that is incompatible with EMET. However I read in some forum MBAE Free have no issue with EMET, only the MBAE Premium incompatible, but the Free installer still have this incompatible message. What is your knowledge about this?

Other thing I read that Programs running in Sandboxie basicaly can not protected by other software because it sandboxed/separated from the main system. Is that true? Do I need some special settings for Antivirus, EMET/MBAE to work inside those sandboxes?

Also is there any recommended site or application to test my security? I read about somekind of penetration test, but I dont know wich one to trust.

Thanks in advance.

This is my security configuration when my Windows XP PC was still alive (year 2021):

As you can see I use MBAE (not EMET) so my advice remains.
Obviously you must include in the Anti-Exploit list all those softwares that can be an entry door, therefore browsers, e-mail clients, PDF readers, Office.....

I don't think you'll have any problems using Sandboxie Plus with MBAE.

I see you using MBAE Premium. As far as I know Free version limited with programs (example Office only in premium). Well, I search more and figure out if I can use both (EMET+MBAE) of them without conflict.

Do you can recommend an exploit and security checker, penetrator tool for end-user like me? What easy to use and cant screw up my system with it.

Thanks.

Erunosta, Did you at least upgrade to 10 to get the free license?  You could have done a clean install on another drive to get the license.

If I don't reply right away it's because I'm waiting for Windows 10 to Update.

Upgrade to Win10 you mean? Nope, I will swap to Linux Mint once there is no more chance for Win7 (eg. Firefox EOS).

Windows 10 is better than Linux IMO

OK, feel free to use it then. I dont want to argue wich is better. I would stick with Win7 for eternity, but that is not an option.

Windows 7 (especially) for online use has been increasingly insecure & increasingly inconvenient for many years.
Anyone doing so needs to accept the inherent risks AND have a robust, proactive disaster recovery plan in place.

Alas the "loophole" pathway to legally upgrade for free from Windows 7 to 10 was closed by MS a few months ago (September 2023).

https://www.zdnet.com/article/its-official-no-more-free-windows-10-upgrades/
(And many, similar articles just like it)

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/139745-upgrade-windows-10-windows-7-free.html

But this is a good deal, if it's still available:
https://deals.bleepingcomputer.com/sales/microsoft-windows-10-pro
(I have no financial interest)

Note: Windows 10 reaches end of support in October 2025. But home users will be able to *buy* Extended Security Updates (ESU) after that date.

I know the risk raise over time, but I hear this doomsaying for like 2-3 years now. I never had any virus, malware or other attack on this PC I built back in 2013 and ran Win7 on it. Atleast nothing stoled or damaged.

Im stubborn and lazy. I decided to refuse to swap to Win10, I dont go on details why, it dosent matter realy. However Im also lazy to start over with a new system even it very well made for Win users like Linux Mint.

Oh also I would ask if there is a legal way to get Win7 ESU for home user (I have Win7 x64 Pro)? I only know Opatch have a paid option to patching all holes what ESU offer.

Answer to your add-on question:

No.
There are *no* (and AFAIK never were) ESU for Windows 7 HOME USERS.
And I am pretty sure they ended for Enterprise a while back.

January 2023:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/say-goodbye-to-windows-7-as-microsoft-ends-extended-support/

For Enterprise:

For Home:

Edited to correct typo

I can't recommend what you ask because I obviously don't know your skill level.
But today there is no anti-exploit testing tool with the features of the HP test tool:

The test I have included for you as an example is obviously outdated.

P.S.

But if you rename the test with the name of a supported browser that you do not have installed, you will see that MBAE will show you some warnings of blocked exploits.

P.S.1

You have to uninstall EMET cannot work well with MBAE.
