 Static Snap

ASUS desktop running Windows 10

I can not remember exactly when this started, but I would like to rectify the problem.

Whenever I restart my desktop I hear a static snap. So far I have been unable to determine what causes this. If I unplug the external speakers there is no snap.  I have cleaned all of the metal connections with DEOXIT but no  joy.

Any suggestions?

The term "static" may not be accurate; sounds like something wrong in your speaker/sound system, and the noise is actually coming from your speakers (which is not static). I don't think it is an electrical short or the speakers would not work at all.  Plug and re-plug your speakers in, ALL plugs including the woofer if you have one.

Enter Device Manager/Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Are there any icons (such as X or ! etc.)on any of the entries indicating a problem?

Try reinstalling the sound drivers if you have them on a CD or USB drive.

What version of Windows are you running? 10 or 11?

It seems you are hearing the speaker wake up when you turn on the PC.

Try turning off the speakers, reboot the pc, turn on the speakers. Do you hear the same noise at any point in this sequence?

Windows 10 version 22H Build 19045.4291

No red X's on any entries.

I do not have the sound drivers on a CD. I had the computer check for any updates. The message I received is that I  had the latest.

At this point, I have no idea. I have heard what you mention sound occasionally on users' computers, but as your sound is working properly, I can only guess that when the drivers kick in on being loaded they created a short power surge picked up by the speakers.
I have search around and found some links that may help:

   ranchhand,

I just realized that these speakers are over 25 years old, so on a hunch I thought that they must be tired after so many years of service and replace them with new ones.

PROPLEM SOLVED!!   :bounce:

Thank you for your efforts in trying to help an old guy!
